A sell-off that began in China and Japan at the start of the day spread to Europe and later to Wall Street. The world’s two largest economies exchanged accusations over their trade talks after President Trump’s ban on American companies doing business with Huawei. The US accused the Chinese telecoms giant of lying about its ties to the government and Beijing said Washington must end its “wrong actions” if it wanted trade talks to continue.
