Before global scrutiny, spice maker MDH faced many US rejections
Hong Kong suspended sales last month of three spice blends made by MDH and one by another Indian company, Everest, for apparently containing high levels of a cancer-causing pesticide. Authorities in the United States, Australia and India are looking into the matter. In fiscal 2022-23, about 15 per cent of 119 MDH shipments were rejected mostly for salmonella contamination, while the rejections stood at 8.19 per cent during 2021-22, the data showed. Everest has had fewer rejections in the United States with just one of 450 shipments in the ongoing 2023-24 year having been rejected so far for salmonella. In response to queries on the FDA data, an MDH spokesperson said its products are safe.

4 Manipur cops blindfolded, abducted and assaulted; 2 Arambai Tenggol members held
Two members of the radical Meitei group Arambai Tenggol were arrested on Sunday for allegedly abducting and assaulting four personnel of the Manipur Police from the state’s Kangpokpi district in Imphal East. This is the second incident this year in which members of Arambai Tenggol have been involved in the abduction and assault of police personnel. On Monday morning, the Manipur Police issued a statement saying two men identified as Taibanganba Sanoujam, 25, and Moirangthem Bobo, 40, belonging to Arambai Tenggol have been arrested for the abduction and physical assault of the personnel. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said he will be back from Tihar jail on June 5 if the INDIA bloc comes to power after the election results are announced.
