Rishi Sunak will be campaign in the Midlands while Sir Keir Starmer is in south-east England on Monday (PA)British prime minister Rishi Sunak refuses to admit defeat, insisting his Conservative Party is still in with a shout as this Thursday’s UK general election looms. Despite Sunak’s bullishness, Labour leader Keir Starmer is expected to take the top job at 10 Downing Street, with the Tories bracing themselves for a devastating performance. A typical but bizarre narrative has played out since rain-soaked Sunak called for the UK General Election in late May, with betting scandals, bungee jumps and a Banksy stunt at Glastonbury among the headlines in recent days and weeks. Even the ever-ebullient Nigel Farage has resurfaced, pledging to lead Reform UK to glory, but distancing himself from any kind of union with the Conservatives. Change is in the air as the UK public goes to the polls for what appears to be a foregone conclusion, but one that represents an immense power shift in Britain.

Several men told me lack of understanding of their partner’s struggles during menopause had cost them the relationship. Niki Woods with her book 'The Man's Guide To Menopause' Picture: Maryanne ScottBecause although menopause happens to women, it doesn’t occur in isolation; it affects relationships, families, and workplaces. Menopause is a complex physiological and emotional transition experienced by all women – and it commonly starts far earlier than we expect. I also wanted to empower men with knowledge and skills to effectively support women emotionally and practically. I believe it’s vital to support both men and women to understand menopause, to encourage better communication, to help people understand and support each other, and to improve – maybe even save – relationships.

Heart disease patients in Ireland and across the world can look forward to better outcomes and avoiding unnecessary treatments due to artificial intelligence advances, a leading cardiologist and researcher at University of Galway has said. Professor of Interventional Cardiology William Wijns said that angiograms were routinely used to look at blood vessels, allowing doctors to check for flow blockages. But due to limitations around this form of test, it is estimated that diagnosis and treatment of patients through the cardio-angiogram can lead to the inappropriate use of stents which are used to keep arteries open but carry risks like blood clots.

The LGFA’s 2021 footballer of the year Vikki Wall has returned to the Meath squad ahead of Saturday’s All-Ireland quarter-final against Kerry. Wall has been absent from the squad all year as she pursued her ambition of making the Irish Olympic rugby sevens team. But she missed out when the squad for Paris was announced last month, freeing her up again to rejoin Meath. She accepted an invitation to put herself in the frame for Paris last September and made her debut against Japan in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in January. Wall had previously played for AFLW side North Melbourne in 2022, having completed back to-back All-Ireland titles for Meath.

I wanted something breathable, more so than my cotton knit pants, but that would be OK walking around in. The fit is loose, and I did order a size up since linen does not stretch. The drawstring kept them plenty tight around my waist, but the legs were baggy and breezy, which is exactly what I wanted. On the bright side, it does mean that when I wore sandals, the pants were not hitting the ground. They were perfect for the beach, colors were spot on, and they also looked perfect for walking around farmers markets.

Photo: GettyThe pace of inflation in Ireland fell back significantly in June to an annualised rate of increase of 1.5pc. That compares with HICP inflation of 2pc in Ireland in the 12 months to last May and an annual increase of 6pc for the eurozone in the same period. Energy prices are estimated to have fallen by 1pc in the month and decreased by 5.6pc over the 12 months to last June. Food prices also fell slightly in June, by 0.1pc in the last month, and have increased by 2pc in the last 12 months. If energy and food are stripped out then the pace of inflation would be higher at 2.3pc since June 2023.

Justice Hunt warned that “consent is something that must be looked for” adding that if it is not established, “you do so at your own peril”. At an earlier hearing, Ms Raleigh read her victim impact statement into the record. “People seem prepared to take extraordinary risks with people they don’t particularly know,” Mr Justice Hunt commented. “Typical things are no longer fun for me — my body does not enjoy new things any more,” Ms Raleigh said. Ms Raleigh said her family has been her greatest support before she acknowledged how the attack impacted on their life.

The money was transferred into a Bank of Ireland account held by Mark Stephens. He said that Mr Stephens had run up a considerable debt and he attempted the scam out of desperation. Judge Colm Roberts said that injured party had clearly been caused stress and anxiety by what had happened to her. He accepted that both men had no previous convictions but said that he would have some concerns about the way Mr Stephens succumbed to temptation. He said that probation service supervision would probably be required for Mr Stephens and he also wished Mr Antony well with his cancer treatment.
