Many readers had the same response: do the same for Irish songs. As fellow Northern Irish band That Petrol Emotion might say, this one will detonate your dreams. The Irish band we had all been waiting for delivered this shot across the bows on their celebrated debut album Dogrel all of five years ago. It’s a sound collage typical of Loveless, voted best Irish album ever in this newspaper last year. The song achieved anthemic mortality when it featured on the band’s incendiary live album U2: Under a Blood Red Sky.

Nathan Carter to perform behind bars at Castlerea Prison charity concertThe country music legend Johnny Cash famously performed for prison inmates on a number of occasions, and now a country performer closer to home is about to follow in The Man In Black's footsteps. It was announced today (Friday) that Nathan Carter will be performing a charity concert, entitled 'Locked Up', at Castlerea Prison on Thursday, July 11. Details of the show were revealed by the Irish Prison Service, which said it would serve as a fundraiser for three good causes in Roscommon and surrounding counties. The Irish Prison Service said the concert was also for the benefit of the staff and prisoners of Castlerea Prison, and that it would be streamed on the Prisoner TV Channel. The prison service released a promotional video for the event, in which Nathan Cater jokes that he's found himself "in a little bit of trouble" and is going to prison.

The High Court ruling represents a blow to Philip Nolan's prospects of returning to Science Foundation Ireland. Photograph: Tom HonanWith perhaps no little understatement, High Court judge Rory Mulcahy described recent times at Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), where Philip Nolan served as director general, as being “marked by turbulence”. Harris had also earmarked Nolan as “CEO designate” of a new body, Research Ireland – which will involve the merger of SFI and the Irish Research Council (IRC) – with a €300 million annual budget. “But on the state of the evidence to date, he has not succeeded in establishing a strong case.”[ Prof Philip Nolan refused significant extension of orders preventing dismissal from SFI ][ Philip Nolan v Science Foundation Ireland: The dispute that has rocked Ireland’s science community ]But where does this now leave Nolan? He suggested Nolan would not necessarily lose out on becoming head of the new Research Ireland organisation which was a matter for the new Minister for Higher Education, Patrick O’Donovan.

Former attorney general Paul Gallagher is one of the top commercial lawyers representing the biggest names in aircraft leasing. The dispute running in the parallel world of the commercial court is a high-stakes one involving some of the world’s biggest aviation lessors and insurers. Sources say the legal fees being paid to lawyers in the UK litigation are at least twice what their Irish counterparts are getting. Running such high-profile commercial litigation in the Irish courts is seen as a huge boost for Ireland for Law , the Government-supported initiative established with a mission to attract international commercial litigation to Irish courts. It is estimated up to 500 lawyers, for reasons including its potential implications for other cases, are viewing the litigation on a regular basis.

The Department of Public Health, HSE West and North West, is encouraging the public to be aware of an increase of COVID-19 infections in the community. Ongoing awareness of symptoms of COVID-19 and taking steps to prevent the spread in both the community and in healthcare settings remain important to protect those most vulnerable. This new variant in the community has resulted in an increase in outbreaks in nursing homes, hospitals and other healthcare settings putting vulnerable patients at risk of infection. If you choose to do one, there is different advice to follow if you have a positive COVID-19 test. Dr Áine McNamara, Area Director of Public Health, Department of Public Health HSE West and North West, said: “We are reminding everyone of the importance of taking steps to prevent the spread of serious illness from COVID-19, particularly for those most vulnerable in our community.

Speaking to Sky Italia, the 25-year-old said: “If a year ago someone had told me that I would go to Rome I would have thought it was impossible. “I saw Arsenal as my whole life and I do not hide that is still my dream (to return). “For me it is a family, I owe so much to those people that if I were to be given a chance I would play for them (again).”Szczesny has had a mixed spell in the Italian capital so far, pulling off an important save in the historic win over Juventus but making a costly error in the Champions League defeat to BATE Borisov.

Roman Yaremchuk hits late winner as Ukraine battle back to beat SlovakiaPA Sport StaffSubstitute Roman Yaremchuk scored a late winner as Ukraine came from behind to beat Slovakia 2-1 in Group E at the Dusseldorf Arena and keep alive hopes of qualification for the last 16 of Euro 2024. Ivan Schranz had put Slovakia – looking to build on their shock win over Belgium – ahead early in the first half. Mykola Shaparenko drew Ukraine level soon after the restart before Yaremchuk slotted in a well-taken finish with 10 minutes left. Just before half-time, Trubin made another fine save to push away Haraslin’s low drive from the edge of the box. Ukraine, though, found a late winner when Shaparenko clipped a pass up towards Yaremchuk, who took the ball down from over his shoulder with a deft touch before stabbing it past Dubravka.

This Cosori airfryer is incredibly easy to operate and clean. I'm hooked and I think for the foreseeable future I will be using this almost every day. While not quite restaurant quality (restaurants use oil fryers) the Cosori comes incredibly close and shaves about 10 min of cooking time. - Reheating steak that I cooked to a rare temp the night before on the pan: no complaints and super easy to clean afterwards. - Bacon: Way faster, way cleaner (and can easily save the bacon fat) and turned out perfect.

Three-quarters of the 193 United Nations member nations have recognised a Palestinian state, including Ireland and Spain, although none of the major Western powers has done so. On Friday the Israeli military said two soldiers were killed in combat in central Gaza, while three were severely injured. One soldier killed was the son of the one the first Israeli Olympic medalists, according to the country’s Olympic Committee. Israel’s Olympic Committee said they “bowed their heads in deep pain” with the Olympic medalist and coach, who helped train the current Israeli Olympic judo team. Israel launched the war after Hamas’s October 7 attack, in which militants stormed into southern Israel, killed some 1,200 people — mostly civilians — and abducted about 250.

Ger Rogers PhotoContrasting vibes surrounding Offaly hurling and footballKEVIN EGAN COLUMNOut of the range of plausible outcomes from last Saturday’s game in Tullamore, it’s hard to imagine a more positive result than the one that Offaly achieved up against Cork, competing well for long stretches and ultimately losing out by a single-digit margin. As a footnote to a wonderful year however, it will be a huge source of encouragement to everyone involved. The contrastMeanwhile, it’s getting harder and harder to be positive about the short and medium term future for Offaly football. Out of 28 Division One League games played, just eight were decided by a goal or less, and three of those were in the first two rounds of games, played back in March on poor surfaces when scoring was much tougher. “We need to have a good open mind and thinking what’s best for the game of hurling.
