The Northern Ireland Secretary was asked about funding to redevelop Casement Park amid reports the west Belfast stadium could be axed by UEFA from the list of Euro 2028 host venues. “There’s actually not very many people who have had the opportunity to play on Casement Park,” the Sinn Féin MLA said. Price of fuel at the pumps shows monthly declineThe price of fuel at the pumps has begun to fall, new figures for June show. The latest AA fuel price survey showed the cost of petrol fell by an average of 4c a litre this month, while diesel dropped by 5c. The average price for a litre of petrol this month was €1.79, while it was €1.71 for diesel. "The early part of the year saw significant volatility in fuel prices mainly due to unplanned refinery outages in Europe and strikes on Russian refineries," AA Ireland's Jennifer Kilduff said, commenting on the June figures. Weaker demand in the US has resulted in high fuel stock levels amid increased production, and delays in interest rate cuts by US banks have also contributed to lower international fuel prices."

Numbers of adults living ‘at home’ with parents drops sharply for first time since Covid

Across the EU, just under half of adults under 30 live with their parents, and it is as low as 16pc in Finland. Until 2015, most young Irish adults lived independently. Mr McCartney said it was unlikely that emigration of young Irish adults was a major factor in the drop, given the overall net inflow of population last year. New figures from the Banking and Payments Federation Ireland (BPFI) show housing construction activity rose sharply in the first four months of this year.

Criminal law barristers to strike in July over fees
Muireann DuffyCriminal law barristers are set to strike again as part of an ongoing dispute over the level of fees. Last October, criminal law practitioners staged action of this type for the first time, aiming to secure an "independent, meaningful, time-limited and binding mechanism" for fees paid to criminal barristers engaged by the Director of Public Prosecutions and under the Criminal Justice (Legal Aid) Scheme. It added that cuts made following the 2008 financial crisis continue to apply to payments for criminal law barristers, despite public pay agreements having restored remuneration levels across other sectors. Yet, barristers continue to be treated differently to others in the criminal justice system and indeed to society at large." Ms Phelan said they regret having to take this action, and will work with colleagues in the criminal justice system to minimise the impact on the most vulnerable people.

Thoughts of babysitters, last trains and the availability of taxis begin to creep in, the longer a monotonous gig rolls on. A good gig shouldn’t be a sprint, but nor should it be a gruelling marathon to endure.
