THE Penang government is grateful that the operating hours for hawkers, vendors, eateries and restaurants have been streamlined. State local government committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said the operating hours from 6am to 10pm allowed now made a lot of difference for both businessmen and customers alike. Jagdeep had recently raised the concerns of hawker stalls at public markets, who were earlier allowed to only start operating at 8am, while markets could open at 6am. He said though they were in the same premises, there was a difference in operating hours. He also called on everyone to cooperate with the authorities and follow necessary standard operating procedures to ensure cases fall below the 4,000 mark.

A video he found on social media of a woman claiming vaccines are being used for genocide helps explain why. In the Philippines, 68% of the people are either uncertain or unwilling to take the shots, according to polling company Social Weather Stations. Anti-vaccination propaganda is a big reason for that hesitancy, which has further slowed takeup in countries already struggling with limited supplies. “It is a polluted media landscape,” Melissa Fleming, the United Nations’ under-secretary-general for global communications, said at a virtual forum in May. “The biggest weapon the Covid-19 virus has against humans is one, vaccine hesitancy, and two, the lack of a coordinated worldwide response,” he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: A father and son are braving the Covid-19 pandemic to be at the Tokyo Olympics next month. Having worked at five FIFA World Cups since the 2002 South Korea-Japan edition, Gurcharan – fondly known as Dr Guru – certainly walks tall in his field. It was former Kuala Lumpur Mayor, the late Tan Sri Elyas Omar, who gave him his break. Elyas, the then Kuala Lumpur Football Association president, appointed Dr Guru as the team’s physician in 1983, and there was no turning back since then. He also said that with the Tokyo Olympics being held against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was going to be a very different experience this time.

(Reuters) - Canadian boxer Mandy Bujold said on Wednesday that her dream to compete in the Tokyo Olympics was "intact" after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that qualification criteria must accommodate women who were pregnant or had given birth. The court ruled that the qualification criteria must include an accommodation for women who were pregnant or postpartum during the qualification period," Bujold said in a statement. She added: "It was one of the biggest fights of my career, but also the fight with the most meaning. I was standing up for what I believe is right and for the dream I had worked so hard for. Michael Cole, the president and chief executive of South Korean car maker Hyundai's European operations, says that flying cars will be deployed in cities by the end of the decade. "If you'd asked me a few years ago were flying cars something that I would see in my lifetime, I wouldn't have believed it," he adds. – dpaArticle type: metered User Type: anonymous web User Status: Campaign ID: 46 Cxense type: free User access status: 3Join our Telegram channel to get our Evening Alerts and breaking news highlights
