Although it isn't clear who started the initiative, netizens have called it a movement by Malaysians for Malaysians. The #benderaputih (white flag) movement aims to help those in dire need of food and essentials. The movement suggests that those who needed assistance fly a white flag or cloth outside their homes, which would let those who are able to help know which households could be facing extreme difficulties. It’s my responsibility to take care of their welfare but if this goes on for months, I don't know if I can afford to," shared Saiful. Our furry friends may need help too.

Extradited to Japan from the United States in March, they are being detained at the same jail in Tokyo where Ghosn was held, and face up to three years in prison. He added that he felt sympathy for Ghosn and his wife Carole after they told him Ghosn could be held in Japan for up to 15 years. Asked by prosecutors if he had been treated badly in Japan, Taylor said the prosecutor who questioned him after his arrest was "respectable and honourable". Greg Kelly, a former Nissan executive charged with helping Ghosn hide his compensation, is also standing trial in Tokyo.

HONG KONG (June 29): A former Hong Kong lawmaker who fled abroad is questioning why HSBC Holdings Plc continues to freeze his bank accounts, in a case that continues to embroil the London-based lender in the contentious politics of the former British colony. “Six months has passed since HSBC unreasonably froze my accounts and my family’s last year,” Hui wrote. The company ceased publication, after it said officials used the law to block access to its bank accounts. HSBC, which counts Hong Kong as its biggest market, has come under fire from western politicians over freezing Hui’s accounts. In his post, Hui said he received legal advice, suggesting that a police order asking a bank to freeze accounts should be rendered invalid after six months.

PETALING JAYA: The latest loan moratorium under the RM150bil Pemulih package will not be interest free, but it would help borrowers by deferring the repayment to a later date. Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said on Tuesday the banks will, however, waive the compounded interest or the interest charged on interest accrued during the six-month moratorium period, as well as any penalty charges. The method of repayment, including on interest charges, is “between the borrowers and the banks,” he told reporters during a virtual briefing. Tengku Zafrul, who was the former CEO of CIMB Group Holdings Bhd , said the latest loan moratorium is estimated to be about RM80bil and would benefit all households and businesses, regardless of their income range. Tengku Zafrul also believes that the domestic financial system will be able to manage the impact of loan repayment deferment.

LUCKNOW, India (June 29): A Hindu group has filed a complaint with police against Twitter's country head for showing regions outside a map of India on its website, kickstarting an investigation in a fresh headache for the US tech firm. A map on Twitter's careers page showed the Jammu and Kashmir region, which is claimed by both India and Pakistan, and the Buddhist enclave of Ladakh outside India. The complaint accuses Twitter's India boss Manish Maheshwari and another company executive of breaching the country's IT rules as well as laws designed to prevent enmity and hatred between classes. Maheshwari was only this month summoned by police in Uttar Pradesh for failing to stop the spread of a video that allegedly incited religious discord. India's technology minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has criticised Twitter for its failure to abide by Indian rules and for denying him access to his Twitter account.

End-2021 will see almost two million people unemployed and under-employed — and this is in a labour market of about 16 million people. Solving this problem requires — paraphrasing Michael Lewis — looking for “new new” things to do, including new ways of doing things. We have failed to find “new new” things by doing things the same old ways. But most importantly, what fundamental changes have we made in doing the things we do and doing new things? The challenge is to come up with niche products and services that can be marketed beyond the local market.
