According to data from the Transport Ministry, the number of road accidents in Malaysia has increased over the last decade. Many road traffic accidents have multifactorial causes, including the driver, traffic, vehicle condition, road, weather and lighting. It is important to have sufficient sleep and rest, as sleep deprivation is a significant factor in major road traffic accidents worldwide. Studies have reported that sleepiness and fatigue contribute to 20-30% of road accidents on monotonous roads. When we are alert, we can exercise good judgement by taking appropriate action according to the traffic, road and weather conditions.

WHEN Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Pogba removed Coca-Cola and Heineken bottles during Euro 2020 press conferences, it showed sports stars are rejecting sponsors' products that fail to correspond to their personal values, analysts say. Ronaldo has a combined social media audience of around 500 million followers, so when he speaks, it has an impact. The 36-year-old Portugal captain is a fitness fanatic and made clear what he thought of the Coca-Cola bottle set out in front of him as he spoke to the media on Monday before his country's opening match against Hungary. "We're in a new era where athletes seem to be reclaiming their voice. Either you take away all the logos or you vigorously enforce the contractual rights associated with a sponsorship deal," he said.

Sufian was the CEO of KWEST Sdn Bhd, the property arm of Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan), before joining UEM Sunrise. While the pandemic has been challenging for many businesses, including UEM Sunrise, it also offers a unique opportunity for the property developer. UEM Sunrise acquired a 9.93-acre leasehold piece of factory land from Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd for RM200 million in March. It would appear that he is indeed seizing the day and has hit the ground running as CEO of UEM Sunrise.

But the divide is far greater for poor rural women, who are also much less likely to have digital literacy skills, according to Chetna Sinha, founder of Mann Deshi, an organisation which works to empower rural women. Mann Deshi, which has given phones to rural women in western Maharashtra’s Satara district, said the devices have helped them survive financially during the pandemic. “We initially provided smartphones to help rural women keep their businesses going during the pandemic, but we then realised how important a phone was to help them connect with their families during lockdown and quarantine,” she said. Seeds co-founder Manu Gupta said women had often been brought to hospital later than men, by which time their symptoms were more serious. Daily coronavirus cases are steadily falling, but Gupta now fears the digital divide could put millions of poor, including rural women, at the back of the vaccination queue.
