Amazon sees Prime Day sales boost amid supply chain snags
On Monday, larger retailers saw online sales rise 28% this year. Analysts estimate this year’s total Prime Day sales will range from $9.5 billion to $12 billion, which would be a record for the event. Prime discounts will end just before midnight on Tuesday. Amazon's own products saw significant price cuts globally, in line with previous years as the retailer used Prime Day to push its own brands. Alleged Asian drug syndicate kingpin fighting extradition to Australia
THE HAGUE (Reuters) - The alleged leader of an Asian drug syndicate who has been compared to Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman is fighting extradition to Australia, saying would not get a fair trial there. While Australia has extradition treaties with both the Netherlands and Canada, Tse's lawyer argued in court on Tuesday that Dutch extradition policies were more advantageous for Australian law enforcement. "Mass media are calling me a drug kingpin but that is not true," ANP news agency quoted him as telling the judges through interpreters. He added that he was scared Australian judges would be biased against him. Government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said a command centre would now be established to monitor arrivals and departures of foreign tourists in Phuket. Abd Aziz likely brought in to revive THHE
DATUK Abd Aziz Sheikh Fadzir, the new chairman of TH Heavy Engineering Bhd (THHE), may be an independent and non-executive director, but market talk is that he is likely to be tasked with reviving the cash-strapped company. Checks on Bursa Malaysia show that Abd Aziz had a couple of stints as a director of Destini. THHE’s largest shareholder is Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd, a Ministry of Finance entity set up to take over selected assets of pilgrim fund Lembaga Tabung Haji. He was previously chief operating officer of Grade One Marine Shipyard Sdn Bhd, CEO of MSET Shipbuilding Corp Sdn Bhd, and senior general manager at PSC Naval Dockyard Sdn Bhd. Apart from that, THHE recently sought to buy out Destini Shipbuilding and Engineering Sdn Bhd’s (a unit of Destini) 51% stake in THHE Destini Sdn Bhd for RM121,131, making THHE Destini a wholly owned unit of THHE.

Beware of monkey business: Large troop spotted in Penang, but control order not needed yet
GEORGE TOWN: A troop of over 40 monkeys leaping from house-to-house near the Penang Botanical Gardens here has caught the attention of residents living near the park. A 31-year-old sales executive, who wished to be known as Neoh, said that he spotted the monkeys as he was finishing breakfast on Tuesday (June 22). The monkeys usually do not harm and attack humans, said Neoh. Affin, Generali to co-develop more than RM2bil GWP insurance business
KUALA LUMPUR: Affin Bank Bhd and Generali Asia N.V. (Generali) have agreed to form a joint venture to develop their life and general insurance businesses in Malaysia. In a statement today, Affin said it has agreed to dispose of 21.00 per cent equity interest in AXA Affin Life Insurance Bhd and approximately 2.95 per cent equity interest in AXA Affin General Insurance Bhd (AAGI) to Generali. "From the AAGI Merger, there will be enhanced brand equity for Affin via ownership of a larger scale general insurer in Malaysia,” said Affin. According to Affin, MergeCo is expected to be the second biggest general insurance provider with an estimated gross written premium (GWP) of more than RM2.0 billion and total assets of more than RM6.0 billion.
