Coronavirus: Rugby receives $7.3 million under the Government wage subsidy

Rugby in New Zealand has received a multi-million dollar payout under the Government's wage subsidy scheme. Super Rugby teams, regional rugby unions and New Zealand Rugby have claimed a combined total of about $7.3 million, with their applications made because of hardship caused by the coronavirus restrictions. The sport's governing body, New Zealand Rugby, has received about half of that, with $3,687,444, half of the money allocated to rugby organisations. WARWICK SMITH/STUFF Manawatu Rugby and Hawkes Bay Rugby have received more than $100,000 each from the government's wage subsidy. Auckland Rugby, with 37 staff members, received more than quarter of a million dollars, Waikato Rugby Union received $160,000 for its 24 staff and Wellington Rugby Union claimed $144,792.00 for its 21 staff.
