Egypt records 645 coronavirus cases, 40 deaths on Friday


FILE - Men in protective masks wait for the train at a metro station in Cairo – ReutersCAIRO – 20 March 2021: Egypt’s Health Ministry announced recording 645 new coronavirus cases on Friday, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the beginning of the outbreak to 194,127. In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 40 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 11,512. As many as 433 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 149,256 so far, the spokesman said. The ministry then launched a website in order for citizens over 18 years old to register to receive the vaccine. Zayed, during Wednesday’s meeting, said it is expected that 500,000 citizens in total register at the website by the end of this month.
