Cash seized during customs check by Ethiopian security forces (photo : EBC)borkenaThe Ethiopian Customs Commission this week announced that it has seized over 110 million birrs worth of smuggled goods in customs branches in different parts of the country. A report by Ethiopian News Agency, state media, indicates that the items were seized in less than a week between August 5 and August 11. The government claimed that goods that are worth 90.8 million birr are said to be goods that were meant to be smuggled into Ethiopia while the remaining 19.9 million birr worth of goods was meant to be smuggled out of Ethiopia. Clothing, fuel oil, cattle, electronics, coffee, medicine, cosmetics, firearms, Khat, drugs, hard currencies and cooking oil are among the items seized – according to the ENA. From the report, some of the items were seized at the airport.
