The electoral commission has been unable to recruit election staff in Lamu county areas prone to terror attacks. IEBC officials in the county reported facing challenges especially in Basuba and Kiunga wards in Lamu East and Hindi's Bargoni area in Lamu West. Lamu West returning officer Abdalla Mwaruwa said: “We have recruited staff in areas other than Bargoni. Parts of the county have been easy targets for al Shabaab militants who then retreat into Boni Forest.
