In a hugely significant speech by Morocco’s King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of Throne Day, the monarch of the North African country reaffirmed his nation’s resolve to support the cause of Palestinian statehood. This comes days after Israel recognised Moroccan sovereignty over the Moroccan Sahara. Further, it confirms that Morocco’s position on the Moroccan Sahara was always driven by justness and principles which were never up for sale. Had it been so, the easiest thing for Morocco to do would have been to dump the Palestinian issue after Israel’s recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara. Not mincing his words, King Mohammed further added that such a Palestine state would have East Jerusalem as its capital.
