United States Secretary of State, Michael R. Pompeo has sent a congratulatory message to the government of Tunisia as she celebrates her 63rd anniversary of Independence on March 20, 2019. In a Press Statement, Pompe described Tunisia as an inspiration to the world commending their desire to pursue peace and seek dialogue. We commend the Tunisian people for your dedication to peaceful dialogue, consensus building, and reform through democratic means. The United States will continue to support Tunisia’s efforts to strengthen its security and develop its economy,” a section of the press statement read. On 25 June 1957, Tunisia became a republic with Habib Bourguiba as its first president.
