“Q” will be the new “C,” and that’s the least history-making part of the British government’s announcement on Sunday that it had named Blaise Metreweli as the chief of the Special Intelligence Service. Ms. Metreweli will be the first female chief of the spy agency, known as MI6, in its 116-year history. By tradition, the only publicly identified official in MI6 is the chief. For the head of a spy agency, Mr. Moore was an uncharacteristically public figure. Ms. Metreweli, by contrast, has spent her entire career in intelligence and has virtually no public profile.

Karun Nair (BCCI Photo)Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. ” The 33-year-old’s return to the Indian Test team after eight years stands as a powerful testament to his resilience and determination.“In terms of incidents, I would say, it was quite a dark place at the end of 2022. I don’t want to be where I was a couple of years ago, quite honestly.”He added, “I think at the moment, at least I am very grateful. And from then on, I couldn’t understand what was happening. I couldn’t understand how it wasn’t there.“But if I look back and think that there is one side of me saying that ‘yes, I didn’t get too many opportunities’.

The warning came on the fourth day of the conflict, as the Israeli military claimed to have achieved “aerial superiority” over Iran’s capital. Later, the Israeli military warned residents of part of Tehran to evacuate ahead of strikes on military sites in the city. In response the Israeli military said fighter jets had struck 10 command centres in Tehran belonging to Iran’s Quds Force, an elite arm of its Revolutionary Guard that conducts military and intelligence operations outside Iran. Powerful explosions, likely from Israel’s defence systems intercepting Iranian missiles, rocked Tel Aviv shortly before dawn on Monday, sending plumes of black smoke into the sky over the coastal city. Israel argues that its assault on Iran’s top military leaders, uranium enrichment sites and nuclear scientists was necessary to stop Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

"The historic appointment of Blaise Metreweli comes at a time when the work of our intelligence services has never been more vital," Starmer said on Sunday. "MI6 plays a vital role - with MI5 and GCHQ [Government Communications Headquarters] - in keeping the British people safe and promoting UK interests overseas. "With a wealth of experience from across our national security community, Blaise is the ideal candidate to lead MI6 into the future," said her boss David Lammy. "Every day, our intelligence services work behind the scenes to protect our national security and compete with our adversaries. "Blaise will be an excellent chief, who will embody the values of the Service and act as a fine role model to its staff.

For two and a half centuries, the Hawards have cultivated oysters on Mersea Island on the east coast of England. They used to sail their mollusks up the River Thames to London. The latest generations wanted to go farther afield, to sell half their oysters to mainland Europe. Seven years ago, Mr. Haward said goodbye to the few continental customers he had and focused on selling his oysters at home.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the G7 summit in Canada, the Prime Minister said he did not have “any doubt” that the agreement would progress. Asked what his message to the US president would be on the importance of the pact, Sir Keir, who is due to meet Mr Trump in Kananaskis next week, said: “Aukus is really important. We’re fully committed to it.”Sir Keir added it was “not unusual for an incoming government to do a review of a project like that”, and that Labour had done similar. I’m really clear about that.”Asked if he was confident Mr Trump would back it, he said: “Yeah, I think so. So I don’t have any doubt that this will progress.”Confirming the review on Thursday, the White House said it wanted to make sure the pact was “aligned with the president’s America First agenda.”
