Since November 1, CNN’s chief climate correspondent Bill Weir has appeared at least 4 times on the network to discuss the climate stakes in the 2024 election. In reporting what’s on the line this election for the planet, Weir also addressed some common false narratives about climate as a political issue -- that it will hurt the U.S. economy to address climate change and that it is not a priority for voters. Rather than being too costly to address, climate solutions like those being implemented through the Inflation Reduction Act are driving billions of dollars in private investment and overwhelmingly benefitting red states – a fact that too few Americans know about. On CNN News Central, co-anchor Boris Sanchez asked Weir what the counterargument is to those who argue that “too much action on climate” will hurt the economy:

From the National Corn Growers Association:U.S. soybeans and corn are prime targets for tariffs. As such, a repeated tariff-based approach to addressing trade with China places a target on both U.S. soybeans and corn. U.S. corn exports to China fall about 2.2 million metric tons annually, an average decline of 84.3% from the baseline expectation. The U.S. loses a combined total of 2.3 to 3.7 million metric tons of soybean plus corn exports annually, while Brazil gains an average of 4.6 million metric tons of soybean plus corn exports annually. A 60% retaliatory tariff level intensifies the shock, resulting in a loss of over 25 million metric tons of soybean exports to China and nearly 90% of corn exports to China.

The New York Times Tech Guild went on strike Monday in a move that could complicate the newspaper’s ability to cover Tuesday’s US presidential election. The Guild represents more than 600 software developers, data analysts, and designers whose work upholds the organization’s digital products, including its live blogs and the Times’ election needle. More than 750 Times journalists have signed a letter of support urging the Times leadership to sign a deal before the election. “We can’t do our jobs without the Tech Guild,” the letter said. The Guild and Times management remain at odds over “just cause” protections against arbitrary or unfair dismissal, remote work, and pay equity.

Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball forecasts Kamala Harris winning the electoral vote over Donald Trump, 276 to 262. “If Harris does win, it might be an indicator that the last days of a campaign can matter, even at a time when so many vote before Election Day. We are not going to recount the various headlines from Trump and his allies over the past 10 days or so, but ask yourself: has Trump closed strong in this race? We don’t really think so, nor do many of the people we’ve talked to in the past several days.”“He also, in our view, has been more prominent down the stretch than Harris has been, which may not be helpful to him—this is mostly impressionistic, to be sure, but think back to when Trump won in 2016: The focus late in that campaign was Hillary Clinton’s emails and her problems.”They also have Republicans winning the Senate with 52 seats and Democrats barely winning the House with 218 seats.

Sorry, Shannon, there is no way to bothsides Donald Trump’s threats to democracy. As Kelly made his case against Trump and his tariffs, a large graphic appeared next to him showing Kamala Harris looking decidedly goofy and Donald Trump looking presidential. KELLY: Donald Trump's entire presidency, and now his campaign, has been one about grievance. “Do you think the vice president would certify as well?” Bream pressed. There were people that died that day because Donald Trump refused to accept the election.” He repeated that Harris and the Democrats understand the importance of peacefully transferring power.
