Unless you’ve worked for an area media outlet, you probably haven’t heard of the Metropolitan Media Softball League, which has pitted teams from local and national outlets against one another going back to 1991. Now that corner of the media universe is captured in a new book, Jim Barnett’s Playing Games at CNN, a memoir of his time coaching the network’s team from 1998 to 2007. His write-ups capture the fun, as well as the slog, of being in a softball league. Players left the field to go work in their softball uniforms; star shortstop John King reported by cell phone as he played. The people who show up for softball games in Kensington aren’t typically the ones who appear in Playbook.

Washington Post-Schar School poll of more than 5,000 registered voters, conducted in the first half of October, finds 47 percent who say they will definitely or probably support Harris while 47 percent say they will definitely or probably support Trump. Among likely voters, 49 percent support Harris and 48 percent back Trump. The new results show changes among this group of voters compared with the first survey conducted last spring. About three-quarters of battleground-state voters say they will definitely vote for Harris or Trump (74 percent). Among likely voters, the latest poll finds that a smaller 21 percent say they are not fully committed to Harris or Trump.

As you know, I’ve been tracking Kamala Harris’ outreach to Republicans, Liz Cheney above all, with a good deal of interest. I’ve described how seeing endorsements from people like Liz Cheney and her father create a permission structure for other Republicans to take the risk of voting for Harris. I’ve even observed (though perhaps only on social media) that events with Liz Cheney provide Harris a way to get out of an ethical dilemma. But Liz Cheney can. But I also realized, as I watched the Michigan version of these events today, that Harris and Cheney are also modeling democracy.

Five projectiles were fired at the Israeli business capital just before 8 a.m. local time, setting off warning sirens. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it targeted an intelligence base in Glilot, near Tel Aviv, belonging to the elite Unit 8200. Israel has had success in killing top leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah in recent weeks, including Yahya Sinwar of Hamas and Hezbollah’s Hassan Nasrallah . Netanyahu has vowed to destroy Hamas but hasn’t spelled out a vision for how Gaza could be governed after the fighting. Hezbollah has said it is launching attacks on Israel in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza and indicated that it will continue until there is a cease-fire there.

Brian Windhorst: From what I understand, they are negotiating with Aaron Gordon. Aaron Gordon was eligible for a four-year, $150 million-ish contract extension. They haven’t handed out that offer, otherwise he would have signed it. From what I understand, they are negotiating and they’re hopeful of getting him at less than what would be his quote, unquote max. We’ll see if that get that done, but I think they’re trying to do a negotiation there .

Once the votes were counted in the 2020 presidential election, the result was clear: The pollsters had lost once again. Biden ended up winning the national vote by less than 4.5 points—a lead that barely let him eke out victory in the Electoral College. View Full Image Graphic: WSJThe industry’s analysis of 2020 polling, conducted by a select committee of the American Association for Public Opinion Research, was full of dour news. Pollsters after 2020 realized that they needed to work harder to contact hard-to-reach voters and ensure the right mix of respondents. Pollsters are still debating whether Trump himself exerts a unique force on voters that pollsters haven’t yet navigated.

BMW is taking a step further into sustainability by utilizing fully electric trucks to transport EV components, though it’s not entering the truck market. Partnering with German company Designwerk, BMW now uses two electric trucks to haul battery cells and modules from the BMW Allee warehouse to its battery production center in Leipzig. This switch from diesel to electric trucks is projected to save BMW around nine tons of CO2 emissions annually. Additionally, the electric trucks are quieter, reducing noise levels by about five decibels compared to diesel alternatives. The facility, where BMW once built the iconic i3 and i8, can now produce up to 300,000 battery packs annually with a workforce of around 1,000 employees.
