Ron DeSantis’s failed GOP primary campaign. The conservative television network has long been a target for Democrats infuriated by its highly-rated programming and Trump boosterism. The Fox interview may have helped accomplish that: Harris’ interview racked up over 10 million viewers across multiple broadcasts, as well as countless more through the chunks shared online and by other news outlets. Fox said after the interview that it was the highest rated non-primetime interview in the history of cable news. Fox declined, a Harris campaign source told Semafor.

Or was it the lingering memory from last year’s video on “Colorful Autumn Leaves Can Prepare Us for Death and Dying”? In many areas, it is a season of beautiful fall foliage, spreading from the North to South of the United States. Now, in older age, the fall foliage seems different. Soon, we are anticipating driving through some colors of fall foliage on the way to Houston. So, I would anticipate being overwhelmed with the beauty of fall foliage as we were over 50 years ago, but tinged with the limited future viewing opportunities.

Defense Secretary, Lloyd J. Austin said he would “like to see Israel scale back some of the strikes it’s taking, especially in and around Beirut” as casualties grow. The White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, affirmed on Wednesday that the Biden administration had told Israel that it opposed “near-daily strikes” in “densely populated areas of Beirut.” Israel had appeared to limit strikes in and around Lebanon’s capital after Ms. Jean-Pierre’s comments, but on Saturday, the Israeli military struck in the Dahiya. Israel’s defense minister, Yoav Gallant, said in a statement that Israeli forces are committed “to mitigating harm” to Lebanese civilians. Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin made an unannounced visit to Kyiv to strengthen support for the war effort as Ukrainian forces continue to lose ground and allies stop short of fully endorsing Ukraine’s latest plan to end the conflict. Mr. Austin is set to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky and top Ukrainian military leaders to discuss how to continue backing Ukraine’s military campaign against a growing set of challenges. He said US officials would help Ukraine train and equip new units. Much of Mr. Austin’s day in Ukraine’s capital was expected to be filled with meetings to discuss battlefield updates and strategy for the coming months. The level of American support will largely depend on who wins the White House in November.

His doctor explained that taking up a new skill — specifically, playing an instrument — was nearly miraculous for both cognition and memory. I thought of what the doctor had said about learning an instrument and I took to the internet, immediately mesmerized by what I found. But now that I have three children of my own, I can see how everyone playing one instrument made life so much easier. I began pouring my life into music, reading every scientific study, every article, asking people what music means to them. I became Sadie, Sadie, Music Lady, whose mission is to help spread awareness about the importance of music in schools and in our lives ― because keeping this knowledge to myself wouldn’t be very rock ‘n’ roll of me.

Hezbollah’s banking arm, Al-Qard al-Hasan, also operating as an alternative bank for Lebanese, was targeted around Beirut by the Israeli military with an intent to disrupt Hezbollah’s day-to-day operations, undermine its support in Lebanese communities, and hamper its ability to rebuild. The financial association was placed under US sanctions in 2007. It operates as a lender and financial services provider for civilians in many areas of Lebanon, where the traditional banking sector is in shambles. The strikes marked an escalation of Israel’s war against Hezbollah. Read more: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/20/world/middleeast/israel-strike-lebanon-hezbollah.html

(joseph.hoppe@wsj.com)--Oil Regains Some Ground Following Steep Loss0813 GMT - Oil prices rise in early European trade following a steep drop last week as Israel escalates its military campaign in Lebanon. The recent climb in gold prices probably stems from safe-haven demand due to escalating Middle East tensions and uncertainty over the U.S. presidential election, Dhar says. The prospect of easier monetary policy in most advanced economies worldwide has also spurred gold futures higher, Dhar says.

According to the review, the two main detection modes employed by SERS in food safety are direct (label-free) detection and indirect (labeled) detection (4). SERS technology has already proven how useful it can be. SERS technology offers a quicker, more sensitive alternative to traditional detection methods, which are often time-consuming and labor-intensive (4). Guo’s article also discusses current challenges with SERS technology that need to be addressed moving forward. Another major challenge in SERS technology is that it is falling behind other analytical techniques when it comes to portability.

“It’s fair to say that we have different needs now.”A disconnect persists between employer expectations for office attendance and employee behavior, CBRE found. Conversely, 37% of employees show up one or two days a week, yet only 17% of employers are satisfied with that attendance. Such downsizing has contributed to widespread office vacancies in some urban centers including downtown Los Angeles, where overall vacancy is more than 30%, according to CBRE.
