A rapid warm-up after last week’s polar vortex-induced deep freeze has put the Midwest on high alert for overflowing rivers, dangerous driving conditions and the potential for freezing rain in the coming days. Residents in Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin and other states enjoyed above-freezing temperatures Sunday, a rise in some places of 50 or 60 degrees from the subzero temperatures just a few days ago.
