The arrests have been made from the capital city's Bailey Road area, Gazipur and Bhola districts on Tuesday and Wednesday. The arrested individuals are Md. DB sources further informed that on the night of December 18, a group of unruly individuals carried out a violent attack, looting, and arson at the offices of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star in Karwan Bazar area. Prothom Alo also filed a case against 400 to 500 unidentified people over a similar attack at its Karwan Bazar office, alleging vandalism, looting, arson and attempts to disrupt publication.

A youth named Siam, 21, was killed in a crude bomb explosion thrown by miscreants from the Mogbazar Flyover onto the road below, police said. Police have arrested one Himon Rahman Shikdar, an Adabar Thana Jubo League activist and an associate of Alamgir, the motorcyclist allegedly involved in the killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson and Dhaka-8 prospective candidate Sharif Osman Hadi. The arrest was made on Wednesday around 2pm during a raid at a residential hotel in the Adabar area, based on secret information received by the Intelligence and Analysis Division (IAD), said Officer-in-charge of Adabar Thana Ziaur Rahman. Following information provided by the arrestee, police recovered a foreign-made pistol, three rounds of live ammunition, fireworks, crackers, gunpowder and various materials used for making cocktails from the house of his associate Mehdi in the Baitul Aman Housing area under Adabar Thana. Police said preliminary interrogation revealed that Himon Rahman Shikdar and his associate were planning subversive activities. Efforts are underway to arrest others involved in the incident.
