At the NBA All-Star Game in Salt Lake City, Canadian R&B star Jully Black made a statement to her country, singing “O Canada! Our home on native land,” instead of the original lyric “our home and native land.”This prompted the hashtag #ourhomeONnativeland to trend on Twitter and subsequently sparked a national conversation about Indigenous rights. According to the senate statement from 2018, the last official change to Canada’s national anthem was to make the lyrics gender-neutral. Jay Soule, an artist also known as Chippewar noted that the phrase “on native land” isn’t new. When Black changed the lyrics to the anthem at the All-Star Game, Soule commented that “seeing it being sung on a national stage is just fantastic.”The events of the All-Star Game have shone a light on the importance of recognizing Indigenous peoples.

Photo by PATRICK T. FALLON/AFP via Getty ImagesJully Black left quite the impression at Sunday’s NBA All Star Game in Salt Lake City, Utah. Our home and native land!”But Black changed it to “Our home on native land,” during her performance. The woke NBA hired Jully Black to butcher 'O Canada' and change the lyrics to purposely stir up division. "O Canada, our home AND native land," to "O Canada, our home ON native land." The lands we have come to know as Canada, although many of us call it home, it is ON NATIVE LAND.

Schreiner staying put as Ontario Green leader after weighing plea from some LiberalsTORONTO — Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner says he's staying put after considering a plea from a group of Liberals to cross the floor and run for leadership of their party. The Liberals have been without a permanent leader since Steven Del Duca stepped down last year following a second consecutive devastating election loss for the party. Schreiner says today he has taken the time to consult his Guelph constituents and people across the province and he has decided he can best make a positive difference as leader of the Greens. Schreiner says he doesn't think he's lost credibility as Green leader for even considering crossing the floor, because people have told him they appreciated how he handled it. Several Liberals have publicly said they're exploring a run at the top job, including MP and former Ontario cabinet minister Yasir Naqvi, MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith and current Ontario Liberal caucus member Ted Hsu.

Russia suspends only remaining major nuclear treaty with USMOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin declared Tuesday that Moscow was suspending its participation in the New START treaty — the last remaining nuclear arms control pact with the United States — sharply upping the ante amid tensions with Washington over the fighting in Ukraine. Explaining his decision to suspend Russia's obligations under the 2010 New START treaty, Putin accused the U.S. and its NATO allies of openly declaring the goal of Russia's defeat in Ukraine. The New START treaty envisages caps on the number of nuclear weapons and broad inspections of nuclear sites. Then-presidents Barack Obama and Dmitry Medvedev signed the New START treaty in 2010. “In this situation, Rosatom (Russia's state nuclear corporation) and the Defense Ministry must ensure readiness for Russian nuclear weapons tests,” Putin said.

Due diligence is a major part of M&A work, and that work traditionally involves junior lawyers reading through reams of contracts. The ChatGPT of 2023 isn’t going to be the ChatGPT of the future. Humans also have something going for them, a built-in advantage artificial intelligence can’t match: our humanity. Artificial intelligence has billions and billions of data points to mine, and ChatGPT can spit them out in tidy, paragraph form, albeit with factual errors. Back in Toronto, the investment manager who dabbled with ChatGPT for a Super Bowl invite was riffing on artificial intelligence and its potential impact upon his livelihood.

The province says it needs more workers in skilled trades to meet housing demands over the next decade. Ontario's government wants to build 1.5 million homes over the next decade, but says it will need 100,000 more workers to carry that out. Story continuesBut with the latest job vacancy rate around 6.6 per cent, tens of thousands of skilled construction jobs have nobody to fill them. You've got the university wall, you've got the college wall, but where's the skilled trades wall? Michelis says he's certain the labour shortage would be improved if Ontario could legally hire some of these skilled workers.

New Canadian guidelines on the wayIn Canada, where about one in 10 children has obesity, treatment guidelines are also in the process of being updated. A team of more than 50 experts across the country is reviewing the latest evidence and consulting families with children who have obesity to determine the best approach. Henderson, who is also working on the Canadian guidelines, said children with obesity are at risk of high blood pressure, cholesterol problems, and diabetes. Still, Henderson said that treatment doesn’t work for all children, and not everyone has access to programs focused on that approach. “There is a subset of children despite making all their efforts living with very severe obesity and very severe complications,” she said.

Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI), a counselling and resource centre for Inuit in Ottawa, opened its new Food Security Program building on Friday, saying it’s another step to helping them better serve their clients. “The opening of the food security centre has allowed TI to continue its mission of providing Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and well-being of Inuit in the community,” Rhonda Huneault, TI’s manager of food Security. Local MPP Lucille Collard said it’s important programs were in place addressing the needs of the province’s Inuit population. “Programs like this one are vital for the health of our community, and it is so important that food security programs meet the needs of the communities they serve,” Collard said. Although Ottawa is in the South, it has the largest Inuit population (estimated by community groups at between 3,700 to 6,000) outside of the North.
