If you end up feeling a bit drowsy after Christmas dinner, don’t blame the bird. Turkey does have tryptophan, an amino acid that helps the body make hormones crucial for sleep, “but not enough on its own to knock you out,” says Toronto-based registered dietitian Amanda Natividad-Li. And while turkey has tryptophan, plenty of other foods have comparable levels — and even higher — without the snoozy connotations. Even pork has more tryptophan than turkey does. There are a lot of foods higher in tryptophan content than turkey — foods we eat more often than we do turkey.”Advertisement AdvertisementAdvertisement AdvertisementSo, how did the myth that eating turkey makes people sleepy take root?

Did you think Christmas day would be as fun as it was about to be when the schedule got released, like 6 months ago? Still, this team is going to play as many starters as they can tomorrow, and at this point, who cares, right? Christmas day is going to be a fun day filled with a lot of fun with our family, but let me be honest with you. This defense is so bad that at this point you could probably play linebacker. Either way, the Cowboys either make our day better by getting a better draft pick, or they just win the game and let us enjoy the rest of the day a little bit longer.

Music does more than merely sooth the soulI have seen how people who are almost non-verbal and suffering from severe, age-related cognitive disorder can come alive in the presence of music performed live. Recorded music, especially the anodyne offerings of institutional background music, does not have the same effect. My own go-to places, musically, are what we have come to call classical music, and, even more, jazz. Except for some more out-there jazz (especially so-called free jazz), jazz as performed these days (and in the past) is highly organized and focused. And, one more thing, two great Canadian classical performers not to be missed are pianist Angela Hewitt and violinist James Ehnes.
