Brian Cronin, of Old Road, Rathmore, was living in Knocknagree with his partner Jennifer and two young daughters Fia and Eve. Mr Cronin died after a crash on the L3013 at Knockdooragh, Headford, Killarney after 11pm on Saturday. A phone was presented to signify how Mr Cronin always kept in touch with his loved ones, often sending funny photos on the messaging app Snapchat. He said that the late Mr Cronin was part of a loving family. The burial of Mr Cronin took place at the cemetery adjoining St Joseph’s Church after the Mass.

Passengers on a train alerted gardaí about a man in a carriage who was clearly in possession of a steak knife, and while he pleaded guilty to possessing it, he claimed it was for fishing. 59-year-old Richard Glavin, of Ashmount Court, Silversprings, Cork, “is acutely aware of the risk of a prison sentence”, his solicitor Frank Buttimer said at Cork District Court. It is a steak knife with a six-inch blade. The gardaí would not have had to search him and find the knife. She imposed a sentence of two months suspended: “I take it he has learned his lesson — any fishing gear has to be carefully packed away.”

During a 24-hour analysis of images the @Grok account posted to X, the chatbot generated about 6,700 every hour that were identified as sexually suggestive or nudifying, according to Oh’s research. Regulators have told the Irish Independent that they are exploring ways of addressing the controversy over Grok underusing minors online. However, xAI claims that Ireland is not its ‘lead regulator’ within the EU, like its sister company, X. However, the controversy has not dented the fortunes of xAI, the division of Elon Musk’s company that owns and runs Grok.

A British skier has died in Italy after falling ill while heading down a piste. The 49-year-old was skiing in the ski resort of Claviere in the Italian Alps on January 4 when he suddenly went into cardiac arrest. The tragedy is the latest to hit the Alpine region after a 24-year-old British skier died last month after he fell 900ft down a steep off-piste slope in the French Alps. The unnamed Brit is understood to have been among a group of skiers who went off-piste in Les Arcs 2000 in the French ski resort of Savoie. While several parties confirmed to the Irish Examiner they are reviewing their use of the social media platform, only the Green Party confirmed that it and its leader, Roderic O’Gorman, have stopped. A Green Party spokesperson confirmed that both the party and its leader have stopped using X. “In December, the Green Party Executive Committee agreed that the party would move away from posting on X, a move that began in the New Year,” they confirmed. A spokesperson for Aontú said the party is not considering a change in how it uses X but called for Grok to be banned in Ireland.

An Coimisiún Pleanála has refused a Tipperary man’s appeal against a decision to convert the garage of his home into residential accommodation. Despite Mr Hassett’s appeal, an An Coimisiún Pleanála (ACP) inspector said that the decision to refuse planning permission should be upheld. The inspector also said that they were unable to confirm the planning status of the garage, or its date of construction. As a result, An Coimisiún Pleanála refused planning permission, citing unresolved concerns over the planning status of the building and the substandard nature of the proposed accommodation.
