According to the Ambulance and Emergency Service, armed factions in Zawiya, a city in northwest Libya, have stopped fighting after confrontations broke out overnight and resulted in the deaths of four individuals. The armed groups engaged in combat near the city's entrance and in neighbouring residential areas. Like other Libyan cities, Zawiya has experienced armed groups clashing for control and influence ever since Libya descended into security unrest following the 2011 civil war that led to Muammar Gaddafi's overthrow. These armed groups have benefited from the security situation by smuggling drugs, oil, and human beings. The largest oil refinery in Libya, Zawiya, with a daily capacity of up to 120,000 barrels, was also harmed by the unrest.
