A legal notice has been sent to the government demanding the removal of the current President Mohammed Shahabuddin, and the announcement of a new president. The notice was addressed to the cabinet secretary and the law secretary on behalf of Abdullah Al Mahmud of Bhola by lawyer ASM Shahriar Kabir on WednesdayAccording to the notice, President Shahabuddin, in a recent interview, disrespected the spirit of July uprising, rendering him unfit to remain in office. It also pointed out that during his tenure, the 12th parliamentary election, widely referred to as the “dummy election,” was held in 2024, which the notice claimed violated his oath of office. The notice demanded that the government announce the new president’s name and ensure that the new president delivers the inaugural speech at the first session of parliament. It also warned that if the authorities fail to take appropriate action within 24 hours, a writ petition will be filed in the High Court.
