The MOA said in a statement released on Tuesday that its technicians have started spraying towns and villages affected by the recent invasion of armyworms in Salala and Zota Districts, Bong County, in order to curb the spread. Already, development partners and governmental agencies have expressed willingness to join the MOA in containing the caterpillars. Though earlier reported as ‘fall armyworms’, the ministry said the invasion was rather an army of caterpillars known as Archaea — different from Fall ArmyWorms. The Ministry, however, disclosed in its statement that the caterpillar invasion has spread to three additional counties, where it is also wreaking havoc on crops and polluting waterways. We are working to have other ministries on board to effectively coordinate our response”.
