El Bakkali crossed the finish line in a time of 8:17.90, to advance to the 3000 Steeplechase final, which will take place on Wednesday, August 7 at the Stade de France. Ugandan Chemutail Léonard came in second with a time of 8:18.19, followed by Ethiopian Getnet Wale (8:18.25).
