GEORGE TOWN: Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid (PKR) arrived at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office here at Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah. It is uncertain why he was at the state office but it is believed to be in connection with the investigation of the alleged abuse of state zakat funds. Last month an MACC investigation team visited several offices suspected of being involved to obtain relevant documents, and statements from two individuals believed to be connected to the case have been recorded by the MACC. The allegations are being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009, which relates to abuse of office for gratification. The alleged abuse was first raised by an Opposition assemblyman during the state assembly sitting at the end of last year.
