Government primary school assistant teachers have set a Nov 29 deadline for authorities to implement “assurances” on salary increase and higher-grade promotion. The announcement was made at a press conference by the teachers’ alliance “Primary Teachers Demand Implementation Council” at the National Press Club. Since Nov 8, teachers have maintained a continuous sit-in at Dhaka’s Central Shaheed Minar over grade, salary, and promotion issues. On Nov 10, officials from finance and primary and mass education ministries met the teachers, promising pay at 11th grade and measures to resolve higher-grade promotion issues.
