Dublin led by 1-5 to 0-2 after 10 minutes, the goal coming from full-forward Callum O'Dwyer, before Westmeath staged a remarkable recovery. Two minutes later, a superb goal from Kealan Connell put Westmeath in a commanding position (2-14 to 1-11), the midfielder finding the net after Thornton and sub Seán Whittaker created an opening.
