House Speaker Mike Johnson and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also attended the game with Trump. The Commanders game marks the latest sporting event at which Trump has faced backlash from the crowd. AdvertisementTrump is the first sitting president to attend a regular-season NFL game since former President Jimmy Carter did in 1978. He has previously criticized the Commanders for failing to change the team’s name back to the Washington Redskins, a racist moniker.
