As artificial intelligence increasingly influences decision-making in health care, its impact depends on how well it supports clinicians on the front lines. Sylvester Tafirenyika, an AI and machine-learning engineer, is focused on building tools designed to improve health care outcomes and reduce avoidable hospital readmissions. At the center of his current work is a patented AI system designed to help hospitals reduce avoidable readmissions. It focuses on 10 leading conditions associated with hospital readmissions: heart disease, cancer, stroke, COPD, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, respiratory infections and trauma. Tafirenyika said his approach to AI prioritizes privacy, reliability and clarity in health care environments where decisions carry serious consequences.

Images of blind and visually impaired supporters using the devices at Africa Cup games were widely shared on social media. “As an initiative to show that blind and visually impaired people can watch soccer games, it’s a positive step. “I felt like I could see the ball,” El Hachimi told the AP. “This final, with the national team playing, should have included better representation of blind fans,” El Hachimi said.

Beyond what unfolds on the pitch, the expression of culture by passionate supporters in the stands is an essential part of the African football festival. At the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Africa has once again showcased its enduring love for both the game and its rich cultural identity. Thanks to the proximity of North African nations, Algeria, Egypt and Tunisia have also been strongly represented at the tournament. For Egyptian fans, placards bearing messages to star player Mohamed Salah are a familiar sight. Their chants rarely pause across the full 90 minutes, creating an atmosphere that feels capable of lifting the stadium roof.

Yet one of the most persistent obstacles to realizing this vision is the prevalence of child marriage and its negative impact on Africa’s productive capacities. Child marriage is among the most underestimated structural constraints on Africa’s capacity to harness its demographic dividend. Translating evidence into effective policies will require a shift in approach — a one where ending child marriage is seen as a core component of Africa’s economic strategy. Ending child marriage practice will not, on its own, ensure that Africa will reach its development goals. Recognizing that ending child marriage is an economic as much as social imperative would be an important step forward.

ENI Launches the Floating of the Hull of the Coral North FLNG VesselItalian major ENI has launched the Hull of the Coral North Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) vessel, a performative event, in line with the project’s schedule. Coral North will be the second next-generation floating LNG facility to be located in the Rovuma basin, offshore Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique, and will produce gas from the northern part of the Coral field on the Area 4 Licence in deepwater. With a liquefaction production capacity of 3.6Million tonnes per year (MMTPA), Coral North will double Mozambique’s total LNG production to 7 MMTPA. According to Western media, the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held this year in Morocco has emerged as a major success, far beyond the realm of sport. A true showcase of contemporary Morocco, CAN 2025 has highlighted the substantial investments made in recent years in sports infrastructure, transport networks and the capacity to host major international events. This success has reassured sporting authorities, international partners, sponsors and investors alike. U.S. officials, including the FBI director, traveled to Morocco to observe the measures implemented, particularly in anticipation of upcoming major sporting events. — CASABLANCA, Morocco (AP) — Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali saved two penalties including the first from Mohamed Salah for Nigeria to beat Egypt 4-2 in a penalty shootout for third place at the Africa Cup Nations on Saturday. It was the Super Eagles’ second consecutive penalty shootout following a scoreless draw after losing the semifinal to Morocco on penalties on Wednesday. Salah had been kept quiet by Nigeria’s defenders and was unable to add to his 11 Africa Cup goals altogether. Osimhen was taken off in extra time of that game just before the penalty shootout. ___AP at the Africa Cup: https://apnews.com/hub/africa-cup-of-nations
