Despite its diversified landscape, monuments and vast desert, Algeria failed to attract tourists, partly because of a rigid visa policy that thwarts visitors. Insecurity is another factor that has been discouraging tourists from visiting the country, where a constellation of terrorist groups operate in the country’s south. By imposing strict visa processes, Algeria is sending the world a message that it does not want tourists. Biden, aimed at, among others, promoting a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, and expressed hope that the various parties concerned will commit to implementing the roadmap proposed. The Kingdom “hopes that the various parties concerned will adhere to this initiative and commit to implementing its different stages,” the ministry underlined in the statement. The roadmap to an enduring ceasefire was detailed by President Biden in remarks he made end of last week at the White House. Besides, hundreds of thousands of temporary shelters, including housing units, would be delivered by the international community. Cutting out the middleman in fresh produce“Our system is anchored on delivering fresh produce at the right price in a timely manner,” Youssef Mamou, co-founder and co-CEO of Yola Fresh tells AgFunderNews. Yola Fresh addresses the fresh produce supply chain’s fragmentation problem by sourcing fresh produce directly from farmers and delivering it to retail outlets and food service companies in Morocco’s capital Casablanca, where Yola Fresh is currently concentrating its operations. The entire Yola Fresh system reduces loss and translates into higher farmer and retailer incomes, reduced food spoilage, and fresher, more affordable options for consumers. Unlike other marketplace startups, Yola Fresh does not own warehouses or trucks and does not hold inventories. Yola Fresh also sees opportunities in providing smallholder farmers with access to finance, which will help increase production.

First published: 04-Jun-2024 08:04:58Staff WriterVenture capital (VC) investments in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region could rebound this year after a slowdown, thanks to a low interest rate environment, according to a new report. The consultancy firm noted that, as interest rates are expected to fall, initial public offerings (IPOs) and deal-making are poised for a turnaround. “This impending shift has the potential to breathe new life into initial public offerings (IPOs) and M&A deals, reigniting investor confidence and deal-making momentum,” the firm said. If interest rates drop, borrowing costs could be cheaper and this will incentivise businesses to “pursue expansionary strategies such as mergers and acquisitions,” according to Alexey Bogdanov, Partner at Tenet Consulting.
