Paper Son’s Asian American-influenced drinks and Calaca Coffee’s cold brew cafe de olla are just two off-the-cuff examples. In that spirit, Sextant Coffee Roasters from Ethiopia-born Kinani Ahmed is bringing what’s likely a first of its kind in the Bay Area North African-style coffee experience to the city. The menu includes a variety of drinks traditional to North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. Take the Wired Gandhi — it drinks like a spicier dirty chai and is already hugely popular. The Frosty Gandhi, a peppermint syrup infusion to the Wired Gandhi (an idea from Ahmed’s daughter), is a lovely latte riff.

Press freedom, artificial intelligence and the situation in the Gaza Strip are some of the key topics that dominated the agenda in Brussels this week. The EU support package is intended to relieve pressure on the Egyptian economy as concerns over the impact of the ongoing war on Gaza continue to grow, according to a report by the Financial Times on Wednesday (13 March). Egyptian Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait recently revealed that he anticipates around 4.5-5.5 billion euros from the EU, provided in a mixture of grants and loans. It comes amid mounting concerns in Europe over fears of increased migratory flows and internal pressure on Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. Athens has described the forthcoming EU support for Egypt with a generous package to manage migration as “vital” for the wider region. This past weekend, in an interview with NBC News, Biden said invading Rafah was a "red line", but he used contradictory and confusing language. "It is a red line, but I'm never gonna leave Israel. The defence of Israel is still critical so there's no red line I'm gonna cut off all weapons," President Biden said. This comment prompted a blunt response from Prime Minster Netanyahu who said: "You know, I have a red line. Maybe a cornered, frustrated but determined Netanyahu will decide now to push through Biden's blurry red line and press on with the Rafah operation.

ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — A dozen countries across Africa suffered a major internet outage on Thursday as multiple undersea telecommunication cables reported failures, network operators and internet watch groups said. The MTN Group, one of Africa’s largest network providers, said the ongoing disruptions were a result of failures in multiple major undersea cables. The West Africa Cable System (WACS), the Africa Coast to Europe (ACE), SAT-3 and MainOne were among the system cables that observers said were affected in Thursday’s outage. Vodacom, South Africa’s mobile operator, also reported “intermittent connectivity issues due to multiple undersea cable failures.” Namibia and Lesotho were also affected. The impact from such cable failures worsens as networks attempt to route around the damage, potentially reducing the capacity available to other countries, said Mater with NetBlocks.
