A pair of archaeologists have uncovered a strange series of rock art carvings that show boats and cattle – both vitally in need of water to work properly – in the middle of one of the driest parts of the African desert. It’s a finding that sheds light on the changing face of North Africa’s ancient environment and a climate collapse around 5,000 years ago. Credit: SuppliedCooper also describes the art as “nicely carved” as opposed to what is usually seen with desert rock art. While Cooper and Vanhulle can’t explain the reason for the style or existence of the rock art in this location, they do theorise why so much rock art is found in such an arid, little-populated part of the desert, which would be incapable of supporting livestock. Before the climate collapse agricultural practices allowed people to begin congregating in cities.

The report by the economic social and environmental council (CESE) said the high number of NEET poses a risk to Morocco’s social stability and worsens poverty, vulnerability and inequality. Unaddressed, the NEET problem triggers psychological issues among the youth and exposes them to the risk of extremism and criminality. The NEET rate was higher among women at 38% than men 13.6%, the report mentions, adding that 40% of all NEET youth had an education level below junior high school. The report came as the unemployment rate in Morocco hit a record 13.7% in the first quarter this year, with a high prevalence among the youth. The government ascribed the high unemployment rate to a severe drought that slashed jobs in rural areas.

And it was only the beginning!”An aurora lit up the sky over Riex, Switzerland early on May 11, after a strong geomagnetic storm. An ‘extreme’ solar storm struck Earth raising concerns over its potential to disrupt power and communications. I’m leaving today and knew I could not pass up this opportunity for such a large solar storm. The storm produced northern lights as far south in the US as Ohio and northern lights were also seen in Canada’s Ontario, according to NOAA. The most intense solar storm in recorded history, in 1859, prompted auroras in central America and possibly even Hawaii. An extreme geomagnetic storm in 2003, for example, took out power in Sweden and damaged power transformers in South Africa.

Concurrently, African stakeholders increasingly assert their role in shaping the discourse and outcomes of the energy transition based on their interests and ambitions. While competition can drive innovation, the current landscape of geopolitical rivalry around the energy transition risks hindering progress on the transition for all. Central to this discourse is the understanding that while approaches to the energy transition vary globally, the ultimate objective remains shared: a decarbonized future. We will then dive into unpacking how partnerships can sustain the development of green industries in Africa and partner countries.

Between 700,000 and 1 million British tourists visit Morocco every year. “I am one of the MPs who have been to Laayoune and I saw for myself the effects of that economic development on the Sahrawi people”, he said, affirming that more economic development will help ending the Sahara conflict.
