A locomotive crashed into the tail of the Cairo-bound passenger train Sunday in southern Egypt, killing at least one person and injuring multiple others, authorities said. It is the second train crash in a month in the North African country. The collision occurred in the province of Minya, 270 kilometers (about 168 miles) south of Cairo, the railway authority said in a statement, and two railway carriages fell into an adjacent watercourse. The U.K. has been gradually boosting its energy security by increasing its renewable energy capacity while continuing to produce natural gas. The risk of blackouts in the winter months in the U.K. has fallen to its lowest in four years thanks to the rise of the country’s renewable energy capacity. Most of the U.K.’s electricity came from renewable energy sources for the first time in 2020, at around 43 percent. The green energy mix consists mainly of wind, solar, bioenergy and hydroelectric sources. Investing in the diversification of the U.K.’s energy mix has helped the country boost its energy security, as well as move away from a heavy reliance on fossil fuels.

As AI promises to accelerate advanced automation in unprecedented levels, we are on the verge of a surge in Edge compute demand. And most likely, a substantial part of that Edge compute demand will be comprised of GPU clusters to provide distributed AI inference. Even as core data centre buildouts continue to unfold across vast expanses of the world, the shift toward Edge data centres presents both challenges and opportunities. Cutting-edge AI services cannot run inside everyday data centre servers; they need computers with high-performance graphics processing units, GPUs. A substantial part of that Edge compute demand will be comprised of GPU clusters to provide distributed AI inference.

By Riad BeladiEurope’s Flawed Strategy in North Africa: A Missed Opportunity for Economic GrowthAs the world becomes more interconnected, the importance of fostering strong economic partnerships has never been clearer. Yet, Europe’s approach to North African countries – Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Egypt – stands as a glaring example of missed opportunity and outdated policies. Europe’s Donkey-Like PoliciesThe reluctance of Europe to change its economic policies towards North Africa has been nothing short of self-defeating. Furthermore, trade agreements that emphasise mutual benefit rather than dependency would empower North African nations to become stronger economic partners. Europe’s approach to North Africa has been marked by a failure to see the bigger picture.
