The name of internationally bestselling mystery machine Harlan Coben is attached to two of these, one fiction, one non. Coben himself appears as the onscreen host of “Harlan Coben’s Final Twist,” a documentary true-crime series, which began Wednesday on CBS (it also streams on Paramount+). “Harlan Coben’s Run Away,” now streaming from Netflix, which has a multimillion-dollar, five-year deal to adapt Coben novels — this one from 2019 — concerns a father looking for his daughter (like “Taken,” I hear you say). As in the previous Netflix productions “Harlan Coben’s Missing You,” “Harlan Coben’s Stay Close” and “Harlan Coben’s Fool Me Once,” the location has been shifted from the United States to the north of England, which has the paradoxical quality of seeming more realistic just by being less familiar. (The Netflix deal has also produced Coben series in Spain, Poland and France, available to watch domestically as well.)

As Bangladesh’s energy demand rises -- driven by industrial growth, urbanization, and digitization -- our power sector must be guided not by short-term fixes, but by consistent and transparent regulations. Electricity is undoubtedly the backbone of economic activity and daily life, and Bangladesh is especially in need of energy sources that are dependable, sustainable, and cost-effective. An independent regulatory body, working alongside the government and international organizations, can therefore help address these challenges by anticipating demand, balancing supply with efficiency, and encouraging investment in environmentally-friendly energy sources. Such an institution could also strengthen long-term energy planning by aligning national goals with emerging global sustainability standards. With clearer rules and stronger management, the power sector can become more resilient and reliable.

The Home Adviser highlighted that border security and monitoring of provocative content on social media are key parts of the overall security effort. Additionally, every presiding officer at polling stations in the CHT and remote areas will be provided with one armed Ansar member for personal security. The government has decided to deploy law enforcement forces in two phases ahead of the 13th National Parliament Election and referendum on February 12. Under this plan, all activities—from polling station-based security to mobile and striking force management—will be coordinated under the Returning Officer. Bangladesh’s coastal belt endured a year of relentless climate stress in 2025, with repeated floods, low-pressure systems, salinity intrusion, and disease outbreaks affecting millions, even without the direct landfall of major cyclones, officials and experts said Friday. According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), at least five low-pressure systems and deep depressions formed in the Bay of Bengal between May and November 2025. Between 2024 and 2025, the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) reported an 8–12% increase in salinity in parts of Satkhira and Khulna, shrinking arable land. Between July and November, more than 60 fishers went missing as trawlers capsized off Bhola and Chittagong amid rough weather linked to low-pressure systems. The IPCC AR6 report warns that low-lying delta regions like coastal Bangladesh face “compound and cascading risks” from sea-level rise, salinity intrusion, and extreme weather.

Despite assurances from the environment, forest and climate change adviser and directives from the law ministry, field-level forest officers have been deprived of promotion. Forest officers allege that seniority is not being followed properly, depriving senior officers of promotion while junior officers are given promotion. After August 5, 2024, they said, the environment, forest and climate change adviser took steps to resolve long-standing complexities surrounding the promotion of field-level forest guards and foresters. This disparity has led to growing frustration among field-level forest guards. The officials demanded that before any promotion from deputy ranger to forest ranger, the Forest Department must publish the gradation list of eligible candidates on its official website.

He admitted that with an estimated 500,000 street children in Dhaka alone, hub capacity is extremely limited. “Most importantly, street children must be treated as rights-bearing citizens,” he added.

Yet amid our personal goals for 2026, we rarely pause to ask a harder question: If we want to help the world’s poor, how can we do this in the best possible way? A decade ago, it committed everything to everyone through the Sustainable Development Goals -- it would fix poverty, hunger, disease, unemployment, climate change, and war by 2030. We have to stop pretending that we can afford to do everything all at once, as the Sustainable Development Goals still do. The learning crisisPutting children in front of cheap tablets with educational software one hour a day can help each pupil learn at their own level and speed. Altogether, the 12 policies would cost about $35bn a year -- a pittance compared to the over $10tn needed to deliver the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
