Council of Advisers approves Postal Service Ordinance 2026 to modernize Bangladesh Post with digital transformation measures. File photoDHAKA, Feb 5, 2026 (BSS) - The Council of Advisers today gave final approval to the Postal Service Ordinance 2026, a new law aimed at digitally transforming Bangladesh Post, establishing e-commerce compliance and introducing a modern address management system. The ordinance will replace the Post Office Act of 1898 and be enacted as the Postal Service Ordinance, 2026. In addition to conventional postage stamps, the ordinance introduces digital postage stamps or e-stamping. This will enable the creation of digital addresses, address-based family tree mapping and geo-fencing.

DHAKA, Feb 05, 2026 (BSS) - A Project document has been signed today between the Government of Bangladesh and the World Food Programme (WFP) for technical assistance. Under the agreement Bangladesh will receive US$ 6,45,714 from WFP for the 'Strengthening Shock Responsive and Nutrition Sensitive Social Projection Programme (SSRNSSPP) out of total cost US$ 6,88,979, an ERD press release. The main objectives of the technical assistance project are- policy advocacy, enhanced sectoral coordination, capacity building and generation of evidence-based knowledge. The core objective of the 3-year project began on 1 January 2026, is to provide technical support to National Social Security Strategy and its related development goals in Bangladesh, the release said. ERD secretary Shahriar Kader Siddiky and acting Country Director of WFP Simone Parchment signed the document on their respective sides.

The accused are surgeon Tasnuva Mahjabin, anaesthesia specialist Syed SabbirAhmed, and assistant anaesthesia specialist Md Nazim Uddin. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam passed the order afteraccepting the formal charge filed by the police. According to the case documents, Ayaan was taken to the United MedicalCollege Hospital for circumcision on December 31, 2023. Following an investigation, police filed the formal charge today.

A technician died after falling from a building in Banglamotor in the capital while installing an air conditioner’s outdoor unit. The deceased was identified as Abdus Sabur, an employee of Electro Mart. While other workers were inside the building, Abdus Sabur was working on the outdoor AC unit above the first floor. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital immediately, but could not be saved. Sources said Abdus Sabur lived in the Uttara area of the capital and had gotten married two months ago.
