The information was revealed in an official communiqué released by the senior management of the Gulf of Guinea Region of this French logistics group, with railroad and port concessions in Cameroon. “Marathon Day is an event sponsored by Cyrille Bolloré, President of Bolloré Transport & Logistics, which puts the emphasis on values such as social cohesion, solidarity and team spirit. As a reminder, it was in July this year that the Cameroonian subsidiary of French logistics company Bolloré Africa Logistics official changed its name to become Bolloré Transport &Logistics Cameroun. With a workforce estimated at about 7,000 employees in Cameroon, the Bolloré group is one of the biggest employers after the State, as recently stated by the Minister of Employment and Social Security, Grégoire Owona.

This performance is in decrease of approximately 5,000 tons compared to the 157,377 tons exported over the same period during 2015. Indeed, this State company, who suspended its marketing activity for non-standard banana this year, globally only exported 61,010 tons out of the first seven months of 2016, against 71,789 tons as at end July 2015. Banana exports in Cameroon are still dominated by Plantations du Haut Penja (PHP), subsidiary of Compagnie Fruitière de Marseille. According to Assobacam, this company’s exports represented more than 40% of total Cameroonian exports as at end July 2016, with 85,473 tons, against 92, 874 tons during the period under review in 2015, thus a drop of 7,401 tons.

Business News of Monday, 26 September 2016Source: Business in CameroonGov't assured of raising 70% of its 2016-2021 bond loanDouala Stock ExchangeThe outcome of the “ECMR 5.5% net, 2016-2021” bond loan, of FCfa 150 million in total, just launched by the State of Cameroon on the Douala Stock Exchange (DSX), the local stock market, is looking very promising. “This level of firm commitments is clear proof of the level of confidence that players on the local financial market have in the State of Cameroon”, observed a source close to the case. In detail, we learn, the three arrangers of the operations which are Société Générale Cameroun, EDC Investment Corporation (Ecobank group) and Afriland First Bank have made the commitment to raise FCfa 82 billion. At the same time, a union of firm commitments gathering BICEC, local subsidiary of the French banking group BPCE; Gabonese BGFI; Nigerian UBA and Cameroonian CBC have committed to provide funds worth FCfa 30 billion. Considering all this, come the evening of 12 October, the Cameroonian government should close with success its 4th bond issuance on the local financial market after the ones in 2010 (FCfa 200 billion), 2013 (FCfa 50 billion) and 2014 (FCfa 150 billion), which were all oversubscribed.

This production doubles the one of 2014, a year when it peaked at 3,000 carats, according to the same source. Compared to Central African countries such as the Central African Republic or DR Congo, Cameroon remains a small diamond producer. But, the country has an enormous potential, thanks to the Mobilong deposit discovered in Eastern Cameroon by the company C&K Mining. Even though the potential of this deposit has been disputed since 2010, several mining experts agree to acknowledge that Mobilong holds one of the most important diamond deposits in the world.
