Labine was at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in Thunder Bay, while Kehar was at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Meaghan Labine says she lent Monica Kehar over $160,000 after Kehar told Labine she had breast cancer and needed help. Kehar told her the money was coming and even sent her an email proving she had a job offer from an established doctor, Labine said. But when Labine ran into that doctor at a meeting for the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the doctor had never heard of Monica Kehar. She was eventually expelled from residency and censured by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba, which did its own investigation.

(CBC told The Breach it “categorically rejects” the claim that interviews were “routinely cancelled”.) The senior producer raised his concerns via email to the executive producer, who then cc’ed one of the higher-up managers. (CBC told The Breach that it doesn’t recall there was anyone else who raised concerns in the meeting, but audio recordings show otherwise.)

Speaking to reporters Monday as she launched consultations on the use of AI in the public service, Anand said the government is looking for a strategy to use AI responsibly. Anand said she wants the government's strategy to avoid bias or discrimination in the use of AI. "This is the part of the work that we're doing to ensure that the AI tools that we are incorporating are not used for unsavoury or discriminatory purposes," she said. Anand said that while it's important to help the private sector develop AI, it's also important to develop the public service's use of AI. Officials told the roundtable that the government plans to launch its public service AI strategy by March.
