Much of the police argument was premised on the need to address 22-minute-long response times to the highest priority emergency calls. Chief Myron Demkiw said the service needs to hire hundreds more officers to address response times. "I think the ability to bring response times down is impacted by many, many variables, some of which are well beyond our control," he said. On Thursday, in an interview with CBC Radio's Here & Now, Demkiw said the service will be closely monitoring response times in 2024. That includes cutting officer response times, increasing frontline and neighbourhood officers and providing a long-term hiring plan for the service.

York Regional Police have released footage of several suspects involved in a home invasion robbery in East Gwillimbury while residents were inside. The video shows the burglars wearing masks, dark clothing and armed with guns. Video shows the male resident held up a golf club but put it down once he saw the suspects who entered the house were armed. Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit are looking for anyone who may have video surveillance or dashcam footage in the area at the time of the incident. Police say that if residents are home during a break-in, they should call 911 and leave the line open.

It will be targeted to African Nova Scotian student-support workers who already work in Nova Scotia schools and want to upgrade their skills to teach. She said it will also address gaps in representation and access within the education sector "that have historically faced African Nova Scotia learners in this province." "We know that we need more teachers in the system broadly and we know that we need teachers who identify as Black, African Nova Scotian, African descent," Parris-Drummond told Information Morning. "We are interested in the knowledge and the experience that these folks have already demonstrated in their work day-to-day in the school system in Nova Scotia as it relates to African Nova Scotian learners, African Nova Scotian communities," she said.

Toronto police Chief Myron Demkiw put response times at the centre of his campaign for $20 million in additional funding this year. "I do expect response times to start to come down," Demkiw said during an interview with CBC Radio's Here and Now on Thursday. "But we are going to be re-evaluating response times and reporting them out publicly throughout the year and I do expect them to change, throughout the course of the year, in the right direction."
