In Texas, the sad part is that money wont go to the proper areas since Texas Broadband Office refused to challenge the FCC data map with corrections. Texas paid millions to Lightbox to collect the state's broadband data, but Lightbox is refusing to submit the challenges to the FCC. Lightbox is saying Texas's horrible contract meant Lightbox owns all the data and Texas leases the data even though Texas paid for all of it. Toronto is in the throes of a homelessness crisis that’s only getting worse, but new budgets from the federal and provincial governments have failed to offer a life raft, says the head of the city’s shelter system. The city is spending $317 million more than it has to operate shelters this year, he said. While Ontario’s budget promised $48 million more for supportive housing — out of $202 million provincewide — he said there was less funding for federal-provincial housing subsidies. Federally appointed housing advocate Marie-Josée Houle labelled the recent federal budget a “sorry disappointment,” panning it as skimming over homelessness, presenting “no new ideas” and offering inadequate funding. The Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness accused federal officials of being blind to the “scale and urgency” of the problem.

U.S. ‘allies, partners,’ including Canada, briefed by U.S. after intelligence leakedWASHINGTON — U.S. government officials spent the weekend briefing impacted allies and partners, including Canada, following reports detailing a leak of sensitive U.S. intelligence about Russia's war with Ukraine and its potential ramifications. "U.S. officials have … communicated with relevant nations, relevant allies and partners as appropriate, at very high levels." "We do not comment on specific cybersecurity incidents, nor do we confirm businesses or critical infrastructure partners that we work with," said spokesman Ryan Foreman. As a consequence, there have been reports of prohibition-style smuggling and sugar syrups labelled as maple syrup permeating the market. Fingerprinting maple syrup glowAs such, there is a need for the development of more accurate and rapid testing tools to monitor maple syrup fraud. Our research team at the University of Guelph has been developing methods to detect maple syrup fraud. Our study examines the adulteration of dark and amber maple syrups with common maple syrup adulterants, at percentages ranging from one to 50 per cent. These methods don’t work well for maple syrup because the extensive processing required to transform sap into syrup potentially degrades the DNA.

Here's a great podcast that tells a bizarre, disturbing, and incredibly sad story. It's hosted by Pauline Dakin, and is based on her 2017 memoir, "Run, Hide, Repeat," which won the 2018 Edna Staebler Award for Creative Non-Fiction. In the 5-episode podcast, also called "Run, Hide, Repeat," Dakin recounts a confusing and stressful childhood full of secrets, spent on the run from a motley crew of boogeymen. Eventually Dakin unearths the truth behind all of the fear and intrigue, but this newfound clarity is accompanied by many mixed emotions. Run Hide Repeat is the story of Pauline's life on the run, her quest for the truth – and her search for forgiveness.

This Solomon, however, belongs to something he calls Urban Renaissance, a think tank based in Toronto. If this is an example of a Canadian “think tank” then one could easily believe that our best brains have left Canada and what’s left is in think tanks. I suggest he and his think tank inquire into the agricultural chemical companies. One wonders if he is real, but the scary part is there are probably more like him swimming around in that think tank. Who pays the wages of this think tank?

Canada will likely wait for U.S. to investigate leaks: expertOTTAWA — A national security expert says Canada will likely wait for American security services to investigate an apparent leak of Pentagon documents that appear to detail U.S. and NATO operations in Ukraine, rather than launching a probe of its own. The leaked documents describe claims, which The Canadian Press has not independently verified, by Russian-backed hackers that they successfully accessed Canada's natural gas infrastructure. "These intelligence leaks are bound to have some kind of impact on the intelligence relationship between the United States and Ukraine, which is so important to both countries," he said. Canada’s Ambassador to the United States, Arnold Henney, joined by his colleague Saul Rae (father of current UN Ambassador Bob Rae) had harsh words for the U.S. Congress on this date in 1967. Henney and Rae traveled to the State Department to officially register Canada’s protests over the role the naming of Norman as a suspected communist by a Congressional committee had played in the suicide of Canada’s Ambassador to Egypt. An American memorandum of the conversation attests to the gravity of the situation. Norman had jumped to his death from a Cairo rooftop only five days before. “The (Canadian) Ambassador said he could not over-emphasize the seriousness of the situation,” the memo stated.

Serreze says sea ice cover was “really low” this winter in the Barents Sea, off the northern coasts of Norway and Russia. In the Beaufort Sea, north of the Northwest Territories, there have been some of the biggest losses of summer sea ice, he said. If there is no summer sea ice in the Beaufort Sea, it means the “seasonal” ice that forms in the winter is relatively thin. Disappearing summer sea iceNot all Arctic sea ice behaves the same way. “That’s because the basic circulation of the sea ice cover packs the ice up against the shore there.
