CAIRO - 19 September 2022: The Ready-made Garments Export Council of Egypt (RMGEC) said the sector’s exports hit $1.44 billion in the period from January to July 2022, marking a 35 percent rise in comparison with the same period in 2021. In a statement Monday, the council said the US led the importing countries from Egypt in terms of ready-made garments, as its imports rose to $820 million in the first seven months in 2022 against $595 million in the same period 2021. Egyptian ready-made garments exports to Europe also increased by 26 percent to hit $266 million in the above mentioned period, compared to $212 million in the same period last year. Exports to Arab countries increased to 33 percent, reaching $195 million in the seven months, against $146 million in the same period last year. The council noted that it will take part in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) - which will be held in Egypt in November - in order to review the latest achievements in the clothes and textiles sector in the field of recycling and turning the industry's waste into a chance for contributing to sustainable economic growth.

Banks operating in the Egyptian market achieved a total net profit of EGP 56.868bn in the first half (1H) of 2022. The Central Bank indicated that the top ten banks acquired 77.63% of the banks’ total net profits, as they achieved net profits of EGP 44.148bn. It added that the top 10 banks achieved a net return of EGP 106.959bn, net activity revenues amounted to EGP 130.534bn, and total expenses of EGP 86.385bn. According to the Central Bank, the five largest banks accounted for 64.1% of the banks’ net profits, as their net profits amounted to EGP 36.495bn. The commitments of banks towards each other in Egypt amounted to about EGP 303.226bn, while their obligations to banks abroad recorded EGP 219.252bn.

CAIRO – 19 September 2022: The Egyptian archaeologists uncovered blocks of white cheese over 2,600 years old, dating back to 664-525 BC, in Saqqara, National News reports. Director of the Saqqara Antiquities Area Mohammad Youssef Oyan revealed the details of the strange archaeological discovery in the area, explaining that the ancient Egyptians believed in resurrection, and often placed offerings next to the mummies. Among the strangest of these offerings is cheese. The Saqqara necropolis contains one of the largest collections of antiquities in Egypt. Since 2018, various expeditions have uncovered notable finds in the area, including a cache of more than 100 sarcophagi.

He is being investigated on suspicion of gang-based extortion and participation in a criminal association, the source said. Bloomberg reported that expectations show Egypt may export 8.2 million tons of liquefied natural gas this year, due to high prices in Europe. In a report, the agency said that Egypt’s exports of natural and liquefied gas jumped by 98 percent during the first four months of 2022, compared to the same period of last year, to reach US$ 3.9 billion. Bloomberg indicated that Egypt seeks to be a major energy center in the Arab region by liquefying gas and re-exporting it. The total current gas production in Egypt ranges between 6.5 to seven billion cubic feet of natural gas per day. Bloomberg expects foreign oil company investments in Egypt to increase by 35 percent, compared to the last fiscal year, during which investments amounted to $5.75 billion.
