CAIRO - 19 September 2022: The Ready-made Garments Export Council of Egypt (RMGEC) said the sector’s exports hit $1.44 billion in the period from January to July 2022, marking a 35 percent rise in comparison with the same period in 2021. In a statement Monday, the council said the US led the importing countries from Egypt in terms of ready-made garments, as its imports rose to $820 million in the first seven months in 2022 against $595 million in the same period 2021. Egyptian ready-made garments exports to Europe also increased by 26 percent to hit $266 million in the above mentioned period, compared to $212 million in the same period last year. Exports to Arab countries increased to 33 percent, reaching $195 million in the seven months, against $146 million in the same period last year. The council noted that it will take part in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) - which will be held in Egypt in November - in order to review the latest achievements in the clothes and textiles sector in the field of recycling and turning the industry's waste into a chance for contributing to sustainable economic growth.

Banks operating in the Egyptian market achieved a total net profit of EGP 56.868bn in the first half (1H) of 2022. The Central Bank indicated that the top ten banks acquired 77.63% of the banks’ total net profits, as they achieved net profits of EGP 44.148bn. It added that the top 10 banks achieved a net return of EGP 106.959bn, net activity revenues amounted to EGP 130.534bn, and total expenses of EGP 86.385bn. According to the Central Bank, the five largest banks accounted for 64.1% of the banks’ net profits, as their net profits amounted to EGP 36.495bn. The commitments of banks towards each other in Egypt amounted to about EGP 303.226bn, while their obligations to banks abroad recorded EGP 219.252bn.

CAIRO – 19 September 2022: The Egyptian archaeologists uncovered blocks of white cheese over 2,600 years old, dating back to 664-525 BC, in Saqqara, National News reports. Director of the Saqqara Antiquities Area Mohammad Youssef Oyan revealed the details of the strange archaeological discovery in the area, explaining that the ancient Egyptians believed in resurrection, and often placed offerings next to the mummies. Among the strangest of these offerings is cheese. The Saqqara necropolis contains one of the largest collections of antiquities in Egypt. Since 2018, various expeditions have uncovered notable finds in the area, including a cache of more than 100 sarcophagi.

CAIRO – 18 September 2022: Director General of the Arab Labor Organization (ALO) Fayez al Mutairi said Sunday that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi was able to upgrade joint Arab action and to restore Egypt’s position at the Arab and international levels. Mutairi thanked President Sisi for sponsoring the ALO’s 48th conference, currently held in Cairo. He urged boosted joint Arab action in the face of challenges as a result of that crisis. It is important to expand partnerships with the three parties of production under the umbrella of the ALO, Mutairi said. He added that all Arab countries are seeking to digitize their economic sectors with the aim to increase growth rates.

(Reuters) - Mathias Pogba, the brother of France international Paul Pogba, was placed under formal investigation and ordered to be detained in connection with an extortion case targeting the Juventus midfielder, a judicial source said on Saturday. He is being investigated on suspicion of gang-based extortion and participation in a criminal association, the source said. Four other people who appeared along with Mathias Pogba before a judge on Saturday were also put under formal investigation, with three were ordered to be detained. Earlier this month the Paris prosecutor's office opened a judicial probe into allegations by Paul Pogba that he was the target of extortion attempts and threats from an organised gang. Paul, 29, told the Paris prosecution office that he had been the target of extortion by childhood friends since March and had paid 100,000 euros ($99,500) to that group in the spring, judicial sources told Reuters this month.

CAIRO – 17 September 2022: Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will arrive in Cairo on Sunday to hold a bilateral discussion with Egyptian Minister of Defense General Moahmed Ahmed Zaki, said the Indian Minister on his Twitter Account on Saturday“Tomorrow, 18th September, I would be in Cairo, on a 3-day visit to Egypt. Looking forward to holding discussions with my counterpart, General Mohamed Ahmed Zaki to further strengthen defence cooperation between both the countries,” he took to Twitter. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be inked between both countries in military cooperation. The Indian Defense Minister will also meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

Bloomberg reported that expectations show Egypt may export 8.2 million tons of liquefied natural gas this year, due to high prices in Europe. In a report, the agency said that Egypt’s exports of natural and liquefied gas jumped by 98 percent during the first four months of 2022, compared to the same period of last year, to reach US$ 3.9 billion. Bloomberg indicated that Egypt seeks to be a major energy center in the Arab region by liquefying gas and re-exporting it. The total current gas production in Egypt ranges between 6.5 to seven billion cubic feet of natural gas per day. Bloomberg expects foreign oil company investments in Egypt to increase by 35 percent, compared to the last fiscal year, during which investments amounted to $5.75 billion.

CAIRO - 17 September 2022: The Senate's Committee on Arab, Foreign and African Affairs, headed by Dr. Effat El-Sadat, recommended that the government's plan for economic and social development include a role for Egyptian foreign missions in attracting investments or facilitating trade exchange operations. The parliamentary committee stressed the importance of determining financial allocations to support the role of foreign missions in the field of attracting investment and facilitating the entry of Egyptian exports abroad. It is noteworthy that Law No. 2 of 2021 issuing the internal regulations of the Senate defines in detail the competencies of the Committee on Foreign, Arab and African Affairs, foremost of which is what the President of the Republic refers to as issues related to the state’s general policy in Arab, African and foreign affairs, peace treaties, alliance and all treaties related to the rights of sovereignty and others. This comes in addition to its jurisdiction over the legislation regulating the diplomatic and consular corps, the affairs of Egyptians residing abroad, and other issues within the jurisdiction of ministries and agencies concerned with foreign affairs, immigration affairs and Egyptians abroad.
