A statement from the Health and Population Ministry earlier in November said that a total of 41,939.792 coronavirus doses have has been administered in Egypt so far. Egypt’s vaccination campaign began in January with priority groups and later expanded to university students.

CAIRO - 23 November 2021: Egypt’s exports to the Common Market Summit for Eastern and Southern African Countries (COMESA) hiked 32.4 percent during the first nine months of 2021, to reach $2.3 billion, compared to $1.7 billion during the same period in 2020, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). CAPMAS said in a statement, Tuesday, that Egypt’s imports from the COMESA countries amounted to $901 million during the first 9 months of 2021, compared to $721 million during the same period in 2020, with an increase of 25 percent. It indicated that the value of trade exchange between Egypt and the COMESA countries increased, recording $3.1 billion during the first 9 months of 2021, compared to $2.4 billion during the same period in 2020, marking an increase of 30.2 percent. Plastics and their products came on top of the list of the most important commodities exported by Egypt to the COMESA countries during the first 9 months of 2021. The COMESA member states are (Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tunisia, Somalia, Seychelles, Burundi, Congo, Comoros, Malawi, Mauritius, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Madagascar, Eritrea, Swaziland).

A royal committee appointed by King Abdullah drafted the proposals to try to modernize the country’s political system and revamp the existing political parties and elections law. “..It allows the leader of the country (king) to go towards party based governments,” he told the assembly. Some deputies also criticized the alterations to the kingdom’s constitution saying it also sidelined parliament and eroded successive governments’ executive powers. Other changes in the text seen by Reuters widen the representation of women and political parties in an expanded 138-member assembly.

Sudan is witnessing political unrest after Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan dissolved the Sudanese Sovereignty Council along with the government. In an earlier statement by the ministry on Thursday, it said that joint armed forces placed Hamdok under house arrest. The ministry said Hamdok called on Sudanese people in a statement to adhere to peacefulness and rush to the streets to defend their revolution.

CAIRO – 23 November 2021: Local Ethiopian media reported Tuesday the probable fall of Debre Berhan located in Amhara region in the hands of Tigray forces in the coming few hours, according to Sky News Arabia. The city lies 130 kilometers away from the capital, Addis Ababa, which is the target of nine armed rebel groups. On the other hand, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated that he would head to the front Tuesday to lead the federal army against rebel forces. Tigray forces have already captured two towns, which are both located in Amhara region either. The raids targeted military training camps, and an arms depot belonging to Tigray forces.

CAIRO – 22 November 2021: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement Sunday welcoming the signing of the political agreement between Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereign Council Abdel Fatah al-Burhan, and Interim Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok. "Egypt also expresses hope that the agreement will be a step forward to achieve sustainable stability in Sudan opening the horizons of development and prosperity for the fellow Sudanese people," the statement indicates. Fourth: The Transitional Council of Sovereignty shall oversee the tasks of the transitional period indicated in Article 8 of the Constitutional Document, without a direct intervention on the executive work. Tenth: Launching a transparent expansive dialogue among all political and social powers as well as revolutionary powers with the aim of founding the Constitutional Conference. Burhan said that a number of the political forces incited chaos and violence, and started to fight each other, which threatens Sudan’s security.

Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea held a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), Chileshe Kapwepwe, to discuss Egypt’s preparations to host the 21st COMESA summit and Egypt’s ambitious plan to preside over the summit for the second time. Gamea announced that Egypt’s New Administrative Capital will host the 21st COMESA Heads of State and Government Summit on Tuesday, with in-person and virtual participation of member countries and heads of African economic blocs. The minister said that Egypt welcomes hosting the 21st COMESA summit and presiding over the COMESA group for a year for the second time, as its chairmanship of the COMESA group includes ambitious and clear plans with rapid achievement rates to increase aspects of cooperation with the COMESA countries. Gamea added that once the COMESA summit is held and Egypt takes over the presidency, meetings will be intensified with experts and technicians to set a time plan of action to achieve all that Egypt aims for during its presidency of the community. Gamea pointed out that Egypt’s chairing of COMESA will support its determined efforts with other African countries to achieve economic integration on the continent and overcome obstacles that may hinder free trade between COMESA members.
