Aug 29 (Reuters) - Argentina said on Sunday Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia were available for all three of their September World Cup qualifiers, despite the Premier League club saying the players had agreed to only take part in the first two. Goalkeeper Martinez and winger Buendia have been called up for Argentina's triple header against Venezuela (Sept. 2), Brazil (Sept. 5) and Bolivia (Sept. 9) in their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign. Aston Villa said on their website that the two players had agreed to make themselves available for the first twoqualifiers but would not take part in the third. Football's world governing body FIFA said it expected players to be allowed to play for their countries. “We now expect the release of players for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers in South America to occur in accordance with the recent FIFA decision, the legality and legitimacy of which has today been recognised in today’s CAS ruling,” it said.

Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population on Saturday reported 251 new coronavirus cases, eight deaths, and 432 recoveries. A total of 287,644 cases have been reported in Egypt, alongside 16,714 deaths and 237,817 recoveries. ADEN, Aug 29 (Reuters) – At least 30 soldiers were killed and 60 wounded on Sunday in Huthi strikes on a military base belonging to forces of the Saudi-led coalition in southwest Yemen, a spokesman for the southern forces and medical sources said. The Huthis have carried out several attacks using armed drones and ballistic missiles on the al-Anad military base, Yemeni southern forces spokesman Mohamed al-Naqeeb said. Naqeeb said that between 30 to 40 soldiers were killed and at least 60 wounded, adding the death toll may still rise as rescuers were still clearing the scene. The southern forces are part of the Saudi-led coalition. Two medical sources said several bodies had arrived at Lahj province’s main hospital along with another 16 wounded people.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Hurricane Ida was rapidly intensifying early Sunday, becoming a dangerous Category 4 hurricane on track for a potentially devastating landfall on the Louisiana coast while emergency officials in the region grappled with opening shelters for displaced evacuees despite the risks of spreading the coronavirus. The National Hurricane Center predicted Ida would become an extremely dangerous Category 4 hurricane with 130 mph (209 kph) winds — that happened early Sunday ahead of an expected afternoon landfall. The storm arrived on the exact date Hurricane Katrina ravaged Louisiana and Mississippi 16 years earlier. He noted that during last year’s hurricane season, Louisiana found rooms for 20,000 people. A Category 3 storm, Katrina was blamed for 1,800 deaths as it demolished oceanfront homes in Mississippi and caused levee breaches and catastrophic flooding in New Orleans.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — A SpaceX shipment of ants, avocados and a human-sized robotic arm rocketed toward the International Space Station on Sunday. A recycled Falcon rocket blasted into the predawn sky from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. The first tests will be done inside the space station.
