Authorities in the southwestern Somali town of Beled Hawo said six Ethiopians were among seven people killed in an overnight attack by suspected al-Shabab militants. The district commissioner of the town, Abdirashid Abdi Arog, told VOA Somali that gunmen attacked a compound, killing five women and two men. Six other Ethiopians were injured in the attack, he added. He said the Somali woman killed was a neighbor of the Ethiopians who came out when she heard the gunshots and shone a light on the attackers. Asked about the motive of the attack, Dhumal said he believed the militants intended to “create conflict” between Somalis and Ethiopians.

A new Ethiopian-owned roasting company called Theo’s Roast is bringing fresh roasts of high-quality greens to the north Dallas-Fort Worth suburbs. “Daniel is considered Habesha and witnessed coffee ceremonies and brewing on a daily basis, first tasting coffee around the age of eight,” Meg Tamre told Daily Coffee News. “We have not traveled back regularly; however, we do maintain shared ownership of his childhood home,” Meg Tamre said. “We want to know the farm origin and provide fair pricing to the producers,” Meg Tamre said. “We have a 6-year-old daughter who was getting tired of hearing about coffee,” Meg Tamre said.

Boeing could have to delay deliveries of more of its bestselling 737 Max planes after a supplier found new production glitches, adding to pressure on the beleaguered US manufacturer. The aircraft maker will have to conduct work on about 50 undelivered planes after its supplier Spirit AeroSystems discovered two holes drilled incorrectly. Until the latest incident, Boeing had been trying to increase production of its 737 Max after years in the doldrums when two planes crashed because of design flaws. The model was grounded for nearly two years after 346 people died onboard Lion Air flight 610 in October 2018 and Ethiopian Airlines flight 302 in March 2019. A Boeing spokesperson pointed to a public letter to Boeing staff from the chief executive of the commercial planes arm, Stan Deal.

The national flag carrier brought in the bulk vessel last July to respond to the growing demand for cargo transport. ‘Our first-ever largest bulk carrier Abbay II’ docked at Djibouti Port for the first time carrying Ethiopian cargo after she registered and started sailing under the flag of Ethiopia, per ESL. ‘Abbay II’ can carry 63,229 tons of cargo per trip, making it the biggest of all the 10 ships currently owned by Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics. ESL – the only national Flag carrier in Africa – provides shipping services to 345 international ports.

The risk of a humanitarian catastrophe in northern Ethiopia is growing, Andrew Mitchell, the UK’s Africa minister, said on his return from a two-day trip to the region. The UK, which has long made Ethiopia a priority country, is slowly reversing large cuts to its aid programme. The government says 16 million people across the country are facing food shortages, with almost half of those suffering emergency or severe levels of food insecurity. This is why Tsega Tsigabu, 23, and her four-month-old son, Kidisty, are languishing in Ayder hospital.
