By Luca Ceschinelli – The mining industry has historically relied on two primary energy sources to power operations – onsite diesel generators and grid electricity. While these traditional approaches provide a baseline of energy, they come with drawbacks with proven limits in resilience and environmental sustainability. Diesel generators have been a staple of mining operations for decades. Grid ElectricityMany mines supplement onsite diesel with grid electricity imported from public utilities. While diesel and grid power enable baseline operations, they fall short of providing true energy resilience and offering environmentally friendly power for modern mining needs.

Just 14% of 3.2 million people targeted for food aid by humanitarian agencies in the region this month had received it by January 21, according to the memo by the Tigray Food Cluster, a group of aid agencies co-chaired by the UN’s World Food Program and Ethiopian officials. The UN and the US paused food aid to Tigray in mid-March last year after discovering a “large-scale” scheme to steal humanitarian grain. Aid agencies are also struggling with a lack of funds. A third aid worker said the food aid pause and the slow resumption meant some people in Tigray have not received food aid for over a year. “They went through multiple rounds of registration and verification, but no actual distributions yet,” the aid worker said.

Why is Abiy making the problems of the Horn of Africa those of other states like the United Arab Emirates? Can Abiy Ahmed ally his foreign policy totally to that of the United Arab Emirates and become a client state of that small emirate? The Ethiopia we know conducted its foreign policy independently. It should not carry out its foreign policy to be such subservient state to another much smaller country. They know that their country’s foreign policy is at a loss and that history is not waiting for them.

According to IHR's toll, at least 65 people have been executed in Iran so far this year. The wife of Mohsen Mazloum, one of the executed men, lashed out at the decision in a post on X, formerly Twitter. Iranian authorities had said that the four men executed on Monday were recruited by Mossad "about a year and a half before the operation." The two countries have been engaged in a shadow war for decades, with Iran regularly accusing Israel and its ally the United States of inciting unrest. Whether violently or through a carefully managed breakaway, the disintegration of Ethiopia appears to be inevitable. One common refrain of both Ethiopian and Western leaders involves highlighting the ills associated with Ethiopia’s potential disintegration. These parties keep reminding us that the disintegration of Ethiopia is an evil that should be avoided, even if millions perish to avert it. Various Amhara political and armed forces thought the government should not enter into a peace deal with their rivals, the Tigray forces. Despite ushering in a multinational federal system, TPLF leaders ruled the EPRDF coalition through subservient political parties in Oromia, Amhara, and elsewhere.
