Exploring alternative legal options is crucial for landlocked countries like Ethiopia to ensure diverse and reliable access to the sea. This may involve considering what benefits and guarantees Somalia can secure from Ethiopia and Somaliland in exchange for cooperation on sea access.

By Scott HamiltonJan. 11, 2024, © Leeham News: Alaska Airlines Flight 1282’s (AS 1282) decompression last Friday on a Boeing 737-9 MAX understandably brought new focus and doubts about the MAX program. It’s a story about quality assurance at Boeing or Spirit AeroSystems, the maker of the 737 fuselages and the plug door. Series of quality assurance issuesThere have been a series of quality assurance issues in recent months at Boeing and Spirit. Quality assurance is also known as quality control and, in Boeing-speak, “quality escapes” or “quality escapage.” In shorthand, these terms are “defects” in manufacturing or final assembly. It is also envisaged that in exchange for the base, Somaliland will receive a stake in Ethiopian Airlines. In current regional and international dynamics, the agreement poses potential risks and threats rather than gains for Somaliland and Ethiopia. Looking at the internal security dynamics of Somalia and Ethiopia, it is seen that both countries are struggling with instability. Somalia and Ethiopia have been fighting against al-Shabab, which they define as a common enemy, for many years. In that case, the current dynamics in the Horn of Africa region will change, ultimately determining Türkiye's political and economic influence.

One week after the bombshell deal was announced, the Somali President was calling on his Eritrean counterpart, Isaias Afwerki, in Asmara. While the Somali and Eritrean leaders met, Ethiopian officials reportedly held talks on military cooperation with Somaliland. The manufacturers of the door plug that blew out of a jetliner last week have used their deep pockets and connections in Washington, D.C. to reduce safety regulations, pressure federal officials, and boost production after two previous crashes and other safety incidents, records show.
