Moreover, the establishment of an interim regional administration and the formulation of a national transitional justice policy were highlighted as foundational steps toward achieving lasting peace. “The Federal Government has gone above and beyond its obligations under the Peace Agreement to realize its noble objectives,” read the statement. The statement stressed the need for “reciprocity on both sides” for sustainable peace, and in particular criticized the delay in disarmament from the Tigray side. On Thursday, 10 countries commended the progress made following the peace agreement, and urged all parties to implement the agreement in full.

Sweden has said that the country supports the EU Council’s proposal to suspend certain provisions of the Visa Code for nationals of Ethiopia and decrease the visa application fee for nationals of The Gambia. Certain provisions of the Visa Code in relation to citizens of Ethiopia are to be temporarily suspended. The purpose of the proposal is to create incentives for Ethiopia to cooperate better when it comes to readmitting its own citizens. Therefore, Sweden sees suspending some provisions of the Visa Code as a necessary measure.
